Bauchi Sets Up Committee To Establish First Mining Institute in Alkaleri

The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a Central Working Committee to oversee the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS), expected to become the state’s first specialised training and research institution dedicated to the mining sector.

Performing the inauguration, the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Mohammed Maiwada Bello, commended Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, for his foresight and commitment to transforming the state’s mineral development landscape.

Bello said the institute is envisioned as a legacy institution that will promote professional training, research innovation, and technical excellence across the mining value chain. He noted that Bauchi State is endowed with vast mineral deposits, adding that MIABAS will equip citizens with modern skills in exploration, extraction, processing, and environmental management.

According to him, the institute will help close critical knowledge gaps, boost local content development, create employment opportunities for young people, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The newly inaugurated committee is composed of seasoned professionals, academics, technocrats, and sector specialists drawn from key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and reputable institutions. Members include representatives from the Ministry of Natural Resources Development, Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Oil and Gas Academy Alkaleri, BAMSEL, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Housing and Environment, House Committee on Mines, MIREMCO, ATBU, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, and the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geosciences, among others.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ibrahim Sulaiman Mato, described the initiative as a major milestone toward unlocking the state’s mineral potential and applauded the pedigree of the committee members.

Giving a vote of thanks, Chairman of the House Committee on Mines, Hon. Bello Sarki Jadori, pledged that the committee would justify the confidence reposed in them and appreciate the support of Governor Mohammed and Commissioner Bello.
