The Bauchi State Government, in partnership with OXFAM and other stakeholders, has launched the Climate Caravan, a grassroots initiative aimed at tackling the growing impact of climate change across the state.
The launch, held on Monday at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi, brought together traditional rulers, civil society groups, and development partners committed to environmental sustainability.
Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, Commissioner for Housing and Environment, described the initiative as a call to urgent action, noting that Bauchi is already grappling with erratic rainfall, destructive floods, droughts, and rising health risks.
“Climate change is here with us, threatening our farms, homes, and livelihoods. This caravan will travel across the state to educate and mobilize communities for collective action toward a sustainable future,” Kawule said.
He urged industries and polluters to adopt cleaner technologies and encouraged residents to plant trees, reduce waste, and conserve water.
OXFAM’s Climate Justice Project Manager, Dr. Kenneth Akpan, called for a strong state climate policy to protect livelihoods and curb environmental degradation.
Representing the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Adamu urged mass tree planting as a natural solution to the crisis, pledging the Emirate Council’s support for the campaign.
