Bauchi State Ministry of Health has emphasized the need for community wide participation in health education and increased awareness about breast cancer, aims to reach underserved communities where access to medical resources is limited.
The Commissioner of Health Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam made the emphasis during the launching of a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign 2024, organized by a Foundation based in Ningi Local Government area.
Dr. Sani Dambam highlighted the alarming rates of late breast cancer diagnoses in rural areas, urging women to take advantage of the free services provided by the foundation, for its commitment to reducing health disparities in Bauchi State.
The Director of the National Obstetric Fistula Center, Ningi Dr. Halim Mukadas who lectured women on early detection of breast Cancer urged them on the importance of self examinations and taking preventive measures as well as to be participating in health talks covering breast cancer.
The Coordinator of the awareness campaign and wife of the speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly Hajiya Abi Hafsat Abubakar Suleiman Said the foundation seeks to enhance women’s health by focusing on early detection of breast cancer with the hope of reducing the impact of the deadly disease in the area.
She added that the foundation offered free drugs, health talks, treatments and medical support to over one hundred women in Ningi Local Government Area, to bring much needed healthcare services in recognition of the essential role women’s health plays in broader societal well being.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed their appreciation for accessing the services without the usual financial strain which many said were enlightened and empowered by the awareness campaign.
Our correspondent report that the Foundation, through this campaign, hopes to expand its outreach in the coming years, aspiring to make health awareness events an annual occurrence in Ningi with the continued support from health professionals and government stakeholders.
