Accounting officers in both State and Local Government Areas in Bauchi State have been tasked to ensure implementation of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS) in their operations.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Alh Yakubu Adamu made the remark on Wednesday while declaring open a two day capacity building workshop for officers involved in public financial management in Bauchi.
The Commissioner represented by the Accountant General of the state, Alhaji Sirajo Muhammad Jaja said IPSAS implementation allows for high quality financial reporting that is transparent, hence the decision of the state government to support such training.
He explained that the training is very important not only to the participants but the state and local government administration.
Sirajo therefore urged the participants to participate actively throughout the workshop and directed that comprehensive attendance lists should be send to his office for proper necessary action to those who failed to attend.
Earlier speaking, the Accountant General of the Federation who was represented by Mr Joshua Luka said IPSAS is an international best practice, hence the need for the three tiers of governments to implement it.
Mr. Joshua stated that IPSAS implementation is to ensure public funds are well spend according to financial regulations.
He added that the only way to promote transparency and accountability in public transaction is for financial officers to get well equip with relevant knowledge of accounting especially the 49 financial standard rules in accounting and auditing.
Participants were drawn from various local governments across the state, where they pledges their commitment to participate activately in promoting transparency and accountability in the state public finance management.
