Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep sorrow over the recent floods that have ravaged parts of Adamawa State, displacing hundreds of families and leaving several residents, including children, missing.

In a statement on Sunday, Atiku, a native of Adamawa, conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the affected communities and called for immediate and proactive measures to prevent future disasters.

“I am deeply saddened by the devastating floods that have displaced hundreds of families in Adamawa State. My heart goes out especially to the children and residents still missing,” he said. “As a son of Adamawa, I stand in full solidarity with the affected communities during this difficult time.”

Atiku also commended the swift response by emergency agencies, including the Adamawa State Police Command, the 23rd Armoured Brigade, Yola, and marine officers involved in the ongoing rescue operations.

“Their courage is a source of hope,” he noted.

Looking ahead, the former Vice President stressed the need for urgent implementation of preventive strategies by both the state and federal governments.

“We must act with urgency. I strongly urge both state and federal authorities to implement contingency plans for vulnerable communities prone to flooding. We must not wait for disaster to strike before we act,” Atiku warned.

His remarks come as rescue operations continue across affected communities, with many calling for increased government intervention and long-term solutions to mitigate the impact of climate-related disasters in the region.
