The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has issued a strong warning over fraudulent activities being perpetrated by individuals posing as employment agents within and around the hospital premises.

In a statement released on Monday, signed by Usman Abdullahi Koli the Head of Public Relations said the hospital expressed deep concern over the illegal extortion of money from unsuspecting members of the public and locum staff, with false promises of permanent employment.

The fraudsters, according to the statement, have been targeting temporary staff, deceitfully claiming they can influence their conversion to permanent roles in exchange for bribes.

“The hospital has no connection whatsoever with these disgraceful and unlawful acts,” the statement clarified. “We sternly warn that no individual, group, or agent is authorized to collect money on behalf of ATBUTH for employment or any related matter.”

Abdullahi Koli, described the acts as both unethical and criminal. “This is a serious offense and it undermines the credibility of our institution. We are bittered by this behavior, and anyone found guilty, staff or outsider will be identified, exposed, and prosecuted without mercy,” he said.

The statement emphasized that all recruitment into the teaching hospital follows due process. “We operate on merit and transparency, and only after the approval of relevant authorities. There is absolutely no shortcut, and people should be wary of anyone claiming otherwise,” he added.

The hospital also urged locum staff and the general public to exercise vigilance and avoid unofficial dealings. “We encourage everyone to report any suspicious solicitation for employment or money. If in doubt, contact our Public Relations Unit directly or call our official line,” the statement advised.
