The North East Development Commission (NEDC) Secondary School Sports Competition is set to culminate in a grand finale in Bauchi, Bauchi State, on Monday, November 11, 2024.
Preparations for the event are complete, with participating schools, officials, and the public eagerly anticipating the week-long competition.
Alhaji Gambo Mamman, Lead Consultant for the event and Chief Executive Officer of Sahel Sports Equipment, Consultancy, and General Services Limited, confirmed the readiness during a courtesy call to the Hon. Commissioners of Education and Youth and Sports Development.
The visit aimed to provide an update on the preparations and ensure a smooth and successful event.
“We are here to inform you about the progress made in preparing for the competition finals,” stated Mamman. “Six states from the northeast will be participating in the event, which will feature competitions in six sports: football, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, basketball, volleyball, and athletics.”
The competition will take place at the Bauchi Township Stadium from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. NEDC is yet to announce the Special Guest of Honour during the opening and closing ceremonies.
The Commissioners of Education and Youth and Sports expressed their gratitude to the NEDC for choosing Bauchi State to host the grand finale.
They assured the technical team of their full support and commitment to providing the necessary facilities to ensure the success of the competition.
Alhaji Ali Babayo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, representing the Commissioner, acknowledged the shortcomings of the earlier state-level competition.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to the competition’s objectives moving forward, ensuring a more successful event.
Both Ministries are now actively involved in the preparations and implementation of the NEDC’s competition objectives.
The technical committee accompanying the Lead Consultant included Mr. Ismaila Hamza Jaiyeola, Director of Sports Development at the Yobe State Sports Council, Hassan Dauda, Director of Sports at the Ministry of Education, Yobe State, and Bala Maijama’a Umar, Director of Sports at the Ministry of Education, Bauchi State among other members of the technical committee.
