Veteran public administrator, Alhaji Ahmed Liman Katagum, OON, has received multiple honours in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service and the development of Bauchi State.
He was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award by the Bauchi State Government during the Golden Jubilee Award and Gala Night held on Saturday, 7th February 2026, at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi, and presented by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
He was also conferred with the Golden Jubilee Excellence Award for Exceptional Service and Community Dedication by the Northern Youth Alliance for Peace and Development (NYAPD) on Sunday, 8th February 2026, at the Event Centre, Bauchi.
Alhaji Katagum began his career with the Northern Nigerian Government in 1967 and played a vital role in the creation of Bauchi State in 1976 by supporting the transition process, helping to establish core ministries, coordinating staff deployment, and setting up basic administrative and record-keeping systems that enabled the new state government to function effectively from inception.
He served as Permanent Secretary in key ministries of the newly created state and later at the Governor’s Office and Cabinet Secretariat, before being appointed the first Secretary to the State Government during the civilian administration of the late Governor Abubakar Tatari Ali.
He also mentored many young officers in the civil service.
After retirement, he served as Permanent Commissioner (1986–1991) and Chairman of the Civil Service Commission (1992–2011), strengthening professionalism and discipline in public service.
In recognition of his lifelong service, he has received several honours and awards over the years, some of which include the BBC Prize Award (1969), Bauchi State Merit Award (1996), NLC Merit Award (2000), Bauchi State Silver Jubilee Award (2001), Officer of the Order of the Niger (2006), and the 2026 Golden Jubilee awards.
The recognitions reflect his enduring legacy of integrity, leadership, and commitment to public service in Bauchi State.
