The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adamawa State Chapter, has declared its leadership structure intact, united, and undissolved, rejecting what it described as an “unconstitutional” and “unilateral” pronouncement by the party’s National Chairman to dissolve the state executive.
This was the key message delivered during a world press conference on Thursday, July 3, 2025, by Comrade Shehu Yohanna, the State Chairman of the ADC in Adamawa.
The press briefing, held in Yola, comes amidst rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections and internal disagreements within the party’s national structure.
“I am a member of the National Executive Council (NEC), and at no point was the party constitution amended to dissolve the state party leadership structures,” Comrade Yohanna declared. “The National Chairman made his pronouncements unilaterally and unconstitutionally, and he is now claiming that his statement is political.”
Welcoming members of the Nigeria National Opposition Coalition who recently adopted the ADC as their political platform, Yohanna emphasized that their decision to join the party signals growing confidence in the ADC’s strength and relevance both in Adamawa and nationwide.
“I affirm that the current leadership structure of the ADC in Adamawa State is legitimate and intact. No one has resigned, and no structure has been dissolved. Our tenure runs until December 2026,” he stated firmly.
The chairman reassured members and supporters that the ADC remains committed to democratic ideals and transparency, vowing that the party will contest and win the 2027 gubernatorial election in Adamawa.
He also used the platform to announce that the party will participate fully in the upcoming bye-election in Ganye Local Government Area, with primaries scheduled between July 14 and 17, 2025, in line with INEC guidelines.
“We are building a party structure that is strong, inclusive, and effective. We urge all members—old and new—to respect the constitution of the party and work within the existing structures,” Yohanna added.
The press conference ended with an invitation to journalists to ask questions, reaffirming the party’s openness and commitment to public engagement.
