Flooding is a global challenge, occurring even in the most developed countries. The recent flooding in Yola South, Adamawa State, is one such unfortunate event that demands collective action rather than blame games.

Long before the disaster struck, the Adamawa State Government had been proactive in educating residents of flood-prone areas about the risks and the necessary precautions. This preparedness underscores the Government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens.

Several agencies and organizations, including NEMA, NEDC, the Wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Bayelsa State Government, and BUA Group, contributed relief materials and financial assistance to victims through the State Government.

These contributions have been commended as vital in cushioning the impact of the disaster, alleviating the victims’ suffering, and supporting the overall response efforts.

The flooding struck while many residents were asleep, forcing them to evacuate their homes at short notice.

Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta was the first government official on the scene, personally mobilizing rescue operations and identifying a secondary school to serve as a temporary camp for displaced persons. Her swift action ensured that relief efforts began without delay.

The Government quickly intervened by profiling victims for support and distributing essential relief items. While acknowledging the disaster as a natural occurrence, the State expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and property.

“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, who have been affected by this disaster. We acknowledge the plight of those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods,” Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said.

To ensure transparency and efficiency in future relief efforts, the Government announced that all incoming assistance will be systematically profiled.

This measure aims to prevent the distribution of expired or inappropriate items and guarantee that help reaches those in greatest need.

The Adamawa State Government reassures its citizens of its unwavering commitment to their safety and welfare. It will continue working tirelessly to address the needs of residents, especially during times of crisis.

The Government appreciates the generosity of individuals, organizations, and agencies that have contributed to the relief efforts, urging all to remain united in rebuilding and recovery.

“We will not rest until every citizen has access to the necessary support and services to thrive,” the Government pledged.
