A man who has served in numerous leadership positions with measurable impact, Dr. Bakari’s style of leadership is defined by vision, discipline, and results.

His record of service speaks clearly of a leader who understands governance at the grassroots and possesses the administrative competence required to move Adamawa State forward if given the mandate.

This article highlights some of his remarkable strides while steering the affairs of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), where his legacy remains deeply felt years after his tenure.

Back in Adamawa, Dr. Bakari is widely regarded as a hometown hero. Serving as Executive Chairman of ADSUBEB between 2008 and 2012, he approached the task of educational reform with uncommon passion and determination.

Under his leadership, basic education in Adamawa witnessed a transformation driven by infrastructure development, teacher welfare, and gender inclusion.

He supervised the construction of Model Primary Schools across all 21 local government areas of the state, distributed free school uniforms to thousands of girls and Primary One pupils, and rehabilitated over 4,000 classrooms to create a more conducive learning environment.

In addition to infrastructure renewal, Dr. Bakari addressed long-standing staffing challenges in the education sector. He cleared promotion backlogs for 6,785 teachers, upgraded 2,085 others, and successfully absorbed 2,700 Federal Teachers Scheme participants into permanent employment, restoring morale and stability within the system.

His impactful leadership placed Adamawa State firmly on the national education map, earning the state second position in Universal Basic Education (UBE) rankings in 2007 and 2009, and first position in 2008—a feat that remains a benchmark to date.

With such a proven record of service, administrative excellence, and people-centered leadership, many believe that Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei represents the kind of leadership Adamawa State needs in 2027.
