Adamawa Records Increase in Family Planning Users as TCI Winds up Intervention

A non-governmental organization under the auspices of ‘The Challenge Initiative’ TCI in collaboration with the Adamawa state government, had a stakeholders meeting on family planning intervention recorded in its three (3) years of existence in the state.

In a goodwill message, the leader and chief of Party The Challenge Initiative(TCI), Dr. Taiwo Johnson, expressed gratitude for the support and cooperation offered to the Organization during the execution of the family planning awareness as well as sensitization campaigns across the state.

Represented by an official of the project, Dr. Dorcas Akila, Johnson announced that the meeting was solely for the wrap-up of the TCI programmes, which will pave the way for sustainability by the state government.

Johnson explained that the program for the advancement of family planning in our societies was introduced to 22 states in the country, including Adamawa, noting that 29,000 additional users of family planning were recorded in the state.

She congratulated Adamawa for being the top lead in the exercise, stressing that 1.7 million users have been initiated into adopting family planning strategies for healthy family lives, urging the government to ensure continuity of the program.

Earlier in his remarks, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Pharm. Zirra Bubanani applauded the TCI initiative for the impactful health care delivery partnership, which will go a long way in assisting families in their family structuring.

Bubanani acknowledged that the stay of the TCI initiative and other implementing partners in the state has really brought the desired changes from the citizens, especially in healthcare, noting that the theme of the meeting “Transitioning Adamawa to self-reliance in family planning” will be a driving force for the government to do more in that perspective.

In their separate goodwill messages on the occasion, Barrister Bashir Tahir of the Adamawa Muslim Council, Yola, and Mal. Sanusi Yahaya Sangere, who stood in for the NTIC Rep. and District head of Girei, Dr.Ahmad Mustapha, applauded the timely and visionary intervention of the TCI initiative for providing innovative education on family planning, which has changed the narrative in all the communities.

They also pleaded for extension of the program in the state with a view to mobilizing more family planning Users in the state. A request that was turned down by TCI officials pledging to only assist in the provision of technical coaching
