Adamawa NUJ Presents Media Bill Copy To Information Commissioner

–Says it is the First Template In Nigeria

The Adamawa state Ministry of information and Strategy is to study the media Bill initiated by Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa Council for necessary advice on how it can be assented to by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

The Commissioner of the Ministry, Mr. James Iliya gave the indication when he received the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists Adamawa state Council led by its Chairman Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan in his office on Friday.

The Media Bill which is before the Governor has already passed through the State House of Assembly last year.

Iliya who was convinced on the substance of the Bill which seeks for additional five years of service for media workers in the state-owned media as well increased hazard and wardrobe allowances said, assenting to it will enable the season professionals to train and retrain the younger ones as the industry is in deficient of competent staff in the state.

He added that Governor Umaru Fintiri has approved for overhauling of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Yola and such gesture will be extended to all the State owned Media organisations.

The Commissioner stressed that the State Government is presently installing Solar Panels in all the media Houses for steady power supply.

He therefore seek for collaboration with the NUJ to propagating the Programmes and policies of the state government.


The Permanent secretary of Ministry, Mr. Solomon Kumangar in a remark had earlier rolled out the feat achieved by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in revamping the media landscape in the state.


The State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan who Congratulated the Commissioner on his redeployment to the ministry assured him of maximum cooperation.


He said the issue of the Media Bill initiated by the Council has been discussed recently at the Union’s National Executive Meeting held in Ibadan,Oyo State impressing on the Governor to sign it in to law.


He also decried the nature of how Media Houses are being understaffed with obsolete operational equipments.


Ishaka Donald Dedan further urged the Commissioner to lobby the Governor for the bill to scale through.


The Chairman further intimated the Commissioner on the need for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to take advantage of hosting the Union’s next NEC meeting which is allocated to Northeast where NUJ leaders across the country will come to the State and showcase to the world, the urban renewal projects of the present administration.
