The need to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS has again been stressed as the Adamawa state ministry of youth and sports in conjunction with United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) organized a one day sensitization and free testing for young people of tertiary institution on the danger of HIV/AIDS in Adamawa.
The sensitization program which took place at the College for Legal Studies Yola, had students of the institution in attendance.
Provost of the College, Barrister Suleiman Ahamed thanked the ministry of youths and sports for choosing the institution, stressing that this sensitization of the prevalence of HIV/AIDS will help in making the young ones stay negative and live positive in pursuit of their dreams
Earlier, the commissioner of youths and sports, Bar. Wali Yakubu said youth development is important to the overall development of the state.
Adding that ” this is why the state governor has dedicated a lot of funds to build the stadium for youth development, noting that this development can only be achieved when you the youths stay healthy”.
Represented by the Director youths in the ministry, Mr. Mike Ngula, the commissioner said the ministry will continue to partner groups and organizations to develop the youths .
Executive Director, Today 4 Tomorrow, Miss Abei Bassey who spoke on behalf of the UNPF said the choice of tertiary institutions is because HIV/AIDS PREVELANCE rate is more among youths of tertiary institutions.
“With this sensitization here today and the awareness created , more than half of the people now know that their destinies is in their own hands”
” The way they live their lives today determines their tomorrow “
Over three hundred participants attended the programme.
