Adamawa Govt Appeals For Traders’ Support On Rebuilding Yola Market

The Adamawa State Commissioner of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Dr. Ishaya Dabari, has called on shop owners in Yola town burnt market to cooperate with the Government on arrangements put in place as the rebuilding process of the market commences soon.

According to the Commissioner, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has approved the architectural design of the market submitted to him by the committee of experts constituted, saying that the market rebuilding process will commence in no distant time.

Dr. Dabari, stated this while responding to journalists shortly after submitting final report of the committee saddled with rebuilding the market.

He revealed that the new market plan has taken care of everything necessary to make it a modern one, adding that soon the procurement process will commence.

According to the Commissioner, the committee which comprises of Architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, town planners among others did a good job that gladdened the Governor who approved the new market design and commencement of the rebuilding process.

He further added that all necessary measures to identify genuine shop owners in the market has been put in place noting that only genuine shop owners in the market will be considered in the allocation when the rebuilding of the market is completed.

According to him, the committee has taken census of all the affected shops in the market, including those occupying government structures and those in temporary structures in the market.

“We will look at those people occupying the market so we believe that with the number of shops that will be build, their will be no much problem of allocation.

“First you must have owned a shop in the market before, that is the criteria. You must prove with evidence that you own shop in the market, base on that we will look at what is available and the nature of your shop before it was burnt,” the Commissioner Said.

However, he maintained that the rebuilding process would come with changes that may seem inconvenience to the business men and women in the market but, called on the affected persons to cooperate with Government in order to ensure a successful completion of the project.

“The Governor is building the market at their request, they requested for it and therefore they should support the government by cooperating with all the arrangements that will take place”, he added.
