Adamawa Flood: Gov Fintiri Constitutes 21-Member Relief, Recovery C’ittee

In response to the devastating flood that recently affected parts of Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has inaugurated a 21-member Relief and Post-Recovery Committee to coordinate government intervention and support efforts.

In response to the devastating flood that recently affected parts of Yola South Local Government Area, Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON, has inaugurated a 21-member Relief and Post-Recovery Committee to coordinate government intervention and support efforts.

The committee is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, and includes key government officials, security agencies, religious bodies, and traditional leaders. The Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Awwal Tukur, will serve as Secretary of the committee.

Members of the committee include Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, Member Representing Yola South; Bello Hammandiram, Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (RRR); Mohammed Sadiq Wali, Commissioner for Environment; a representative of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); the Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA); and representatives from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Also included are the Chairman of Yola South Local Government Council, two representatives each from the Muslim Council and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), a representative of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), the District Head of Yola, the District Head of Bole/Yolde Pate, and a representative from the Secretariat, Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Governor Fintiri, while constituting the committee, tasked members with the responsibility of identifying urgent measures to bring relief to flood victims and to design strategies for long-term post-disaster recovery. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the safety and welfare of all citizens affected by natural disasters.

“We are committed to providing relief and support to affected communities and working towards sustainable solutions to mitigate future disasters,” the Governor said.

He further emphasized the need for the committee to carry out its assignment with fairness, transparency, and a sense of urgency, stressing that the ultimate goal is to restore hope and normalcy to the lives of the affected residents.

The formation of this committee underscores the state government’s proactive approach to disaster response and its readiness to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in addressing humanitarian emergencies.
