Former Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Malam Bashiru Ahmad, has facilitated the construction of a solar-powered borehole equipped with a 10,000-gallon overhead tank on a 9-meter stanchion for residents of Chalawa community in Yola North Local Government Area.

The project, executed by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) through Nur Structural Aluminium and Steel Engineering, is located behind Jambutu Motor Park along Chalawa Road in Jimeta.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony on Monday, Malam Ahmad disclosed that the borehole has a water capacity of nearly 40,000 litres, describing it as sufficient to serve the entire community through a pipe network system.

He said the project would go a long way in addressing water scarcity and reducing waterborne diseases in the area. Ahmad urged residents to safeguard the facility and ensure its proper maintenance for long-term use.

Representatives of the NEDC commended the collaborative effort, describing the facility as one of the best solar-powered boreholes executed under the Commission’s community development initiative.

They reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to implementing people-oriented projects across the region.

According to the NEDC, the formal commissioning of the project will be held at a later date, with dignitaries including the Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, expected to attend.

Receiving the keys to the project, the Yola North PDP Chairman and community representative, Danjuma M. K, expressed appreciation to Malam Bashiru Ahmad and the NEDC for their intervention, describing it as a timely relief to the people of the community.
