Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for the timely delivery of relief materials to victims of recent flooding in the state.

Speaking in Yola on Thursday during the official handover of the items, Farauta appreciated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its continued support and assured that the materials would be distributed directly to verified beneficiaries across affected communities.

She expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for what she described as a fatherly gesture, adding that the relief support would go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of displaced persons. “We want to sincerely thank Mr. President, who is a father to the nation, for this intervention,” she said. “We also thank NEMA as an agency for always standing by us during times of crisis.”

Farauta disclosed that the state government would soon set up a committee to enumerate households and individuals in resettlement areas, particularly those affected by the recent floods. She noted that the newly received items were in addition to the emergency relief delivered by NEMA during the peak of the disaster.

The relief items received include 500 bags of 25kg rice, 500 bags of 25kg maize, 500 cartons of spaghetti, 50 cartons of seasoning cubes, 50 cartons of tomato paste, 50 kegs of vegetable oil, and 50 bags of iodized salt. Non-food items donated include 1,000 plastic cups, 1,000 plastic spoons, 250 sets of children’s clothing, 200 nylon mats, 200 blankets, and 200 mattresses.

Earlier, the Zonal Director of NEMA for the North-East, Yakubu Suleiman, who officially handed over the items, noted that the agency’s Disaster Response Unit played a critical role in evacuation and emergency operations during the flood incident.

Suleiman also stated that proactive measures taken by the agency ahead of the flood season helped to significantly reduce casualties and damage. He reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to continued collaboration with the state government to support vulnerable communities.
