The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent communal clashes between the Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area, which led to the loss of lives and destruction of property on both sides.

In a statement issued by the State CAN Chairman, Rev. Dr. Joel Danjuma Manzo, the association lamented the incident, describing it as tragic and avoidable, especially considering the longstanding historical ties between the two communities.

Rev. Manzo highlighted the shared heritage, intermarriages, and mutual respect that have bonded the Bachama and Chobo people for generations, emphasizing that such a legacy should not be destroyed over land disputes.

“Disagreements may arise among families and communities,” he stated, “but in such moments, we must turn to our Christian values of love, peace, and being our brother’s keeper.”

He called for dialogue and peaceful engagement, urging community leaders, pastors, traditional rulers, and elders from both sides to come together and find a lasting solution through mutual understanding and respect.

“I emphasize the need to prioritize love, empathy, and dialogue over violence and weapons,” he said, stressing that peace is the only sustainable path forward.

The CAN chairman also encouraged both communities to preserve and strengthen their age-old relationship and work towards a peaceful coexistence rooted in harmony and trust.

“It is my earnest prayer that God, in His infinite wisdom, grants you the patience, wisdom, and love needed to overcome this challenge,” Rev. Manzo concluded.

He expressed hope that the two communities will rise above their differences, emerge more united, and work collectively to protect their common heritage from external threats.
