In a major move to address infrastructure deficits and boost regional connectivity, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed over two critical bridge projects to Triacta Nigeria Ltd in Adamawa State.

The projects include the construction of a new 5-span, 100-meter bridge along the Lakare/Bole Road in Yola South and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the 10-span, 400-meter Numan Bridge. For years, the absence of a bridge at the Lakare/Bole crossing had left residents stranded during the rainy season, cutting off access to farms, markets, and essential services.

At the official handover ceremony, key stakeholders underscored the transformative potential of the projects. Representing the NEDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Goni Alkali, the State Coordinator, Barr. Khalifa M. Lawan, urged the host communities to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure smooth and timely execution.

“The NEDC is committed to changing the narrative of infrastructure in the Northeast,” Lawan stated. “We urge the community to take ownership of this project and protect it. To the contractor, we say do not compromise on standard.”

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Energy Development, Engr. Muhammad Suleiman, commended the NEDC for initiating what he described as “giant projects” and pledged the state government’s unwavering support to ensure successful completion.

“The state government is fully behind this initiative. We will provide all necessary support to ensure timely delivery for the benefit of our people,” Engr. Suleiman affirmed.

The Acting District Head of Lakare/Bole, Mohammed Jingi, also expressed gratitude to the NEDC and the state government, describing the intervention as a long-awaited lifeline for his community.

“For years, our people have suffered during the rainy season. This project brings us great relief and renewed hope,” he said.

In his remarks, the Senior Project Manager of Triacta Nig. Ltd., Engr. Ghassan Ghanem, assured all stakeholders of quality delivery and adherence to schedule.

“We assure the NEDC and the good people of this community of our commitment to timely completion and the highest standard of work,” he stated.

The event ended in celebration as residents of Lakare/Bole expressed heartfelt appreciation to the NEDC for what many described as the beginning of a new era of connectivity, safety, and economic opportunity.

With the site now officially handed over, construction is set to begin immediately on the two bridges — a development poised to significantly enhance transportation and improve livelihoods across the region.
