As the world marks Cancer Awareness Month, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter, joins in raising awareness about the growing impact of cancer and the importance of early detection, treatment, and support for survivors.
In a statement signed by the Chairperson of the association and its Secretary, Sahura Jibril Maidoki and Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, said cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of death globally, affecting millions of families each year.
The statement continues to say, “NAWOJ Kaduna recognizes the critical role of information, education, and advocacy in combating this disease.
“We, therefore, call on government agencies, healthcare providers, civil society organizations, and the media to strengthen awareness campaigns, promote regular screening, and ensure access to affordable healthcare services.
“We, especially, urge women to take advantage of available screening programs for breast, cervical, and other forms of cancer, as early detection can save lives. We also encourage men to be active participants in cancer prevention and awareness initiatives, as collective action is vital in overcoming this health challenge.
“NAWOJ Kaduna remains committed to using the power of the media to inform, educate, and mobilize the public toward a healthier and more cancer-aware society.
“Together, we can build a future free of cancer.” The statement concluded.
