Over 200 young women and girls in Bauchi State are gaining practical tech and creative skills through the STEAMinist Project, a groundbreaking initiative.

Mr Oluwatosin Zuriel, the Senior Programme Officer for GCVSI made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Bauchi

He explained that the STEAMinist Project was conceived to give young women the opportunity to learn relevant digital and technical skills that can transform their lives and communities.

According to him, the project was implemented by Girl Child Values Support Initiative (GCVSI) in partnership with the French Embassy Fund.

He said the participants are being trained in fields such as electronics, graphic design, and renewable energy, equipping them to challenge gender norms, earn income, and contribute to their communities.
Participants, Hafsat Abdulrazaq, a 400-level Electrical and Electronics Engineering student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, shared how the program transformed her understanding of engineering.
“We rarely did practicals in school. Here, I learned to design circuits, solder, build lithium-ion battery packs and even a solar generator.
“This has boosted my confidence and given me tools to launch a business.” she said
Mansura Abdulhakim, who chose graphic design, highlighted how the training turned her passion for art into a profession.
“Now I earn from my designs. The training opened doors for me,” she said.
Another participant, Lawan Sylvanus, a Mechatronics student at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, shares similar gains.
“I’ve bridged the gap between theory and practice. Building a solar generator that powers essential electronics was a big milestone.” he said
