The Adamawa State Executive Council, at its 20th meeting for 2025, held on Wednesday, approved contracts worth several billions of naira for the upgrade and renovation of key government structures and institutions across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the meeting, which was presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.
James explained that among the approvals was the award of three lots of contracts for the renovation and upgrade of the Adamawa State Civil Service Commission at a total cost of N837 million, with a completion period of six months.
He said the project, to be handled by three different contractors, will encompass remodeling, renovation, construction of an administrative block and gatehouse, a new office block, a generator house, an ICT block, perimeter fencing, and external works at the Commission’s headquarters.
The commissioner added that the Council also approved the renovation of the Presidential Lodge within the Adamawa State Government House, Yola, at the cost of N279 million, to be completed within six months.
In addition, Mr James said contracts were awarded for construction works at the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) in two lots, involving two contractors, at a total cost of N461 million, also with a six-month completion period.
The Council ratified an administrative approval earlier granted by Governor Fintiri for the payment of N396 million for 12,000 bags of NPK fertilizer allocated to the state by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
According to the Information Commissioner, the state government purchased the fertilizer at a subsidized rate for distribution to farmers.
He also announced that, the Council approved the implementation of Phase One of the Adamawa State Digital Academy Project for N926 million, to be completed within four months.
Similarly, another set of construction works at the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, valued at N905 million, was approved, with a completion timeline of six months.
The Council also gave approval for the construction of height restriction barriers and installation of signage at four major flyovers within the state capital at a total cost of N181 million. The affected flyovers include Unity Flyover, Lamido Aliyu Flyover, and the Mubi Roundabout Flyover, among others.
The commissioner reveals that contracts were approved for the construction and renovation of the Adamawa State Liaison Office in Maitama, Abuja, in two lots at a total cost of N794 million, to be executed by two contracting firms.
The Council further approved additional works for the completion of the Adamawa State House of Assembly office extension project at a cost of over N600 million.
Speaking on the significance of the projects, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Pirambe, said the contracts are part of Governor Fintiri’s urban renewal vision aimed at upgrading public infrastructure to meet modern global standards.
“Most of these projects, including those at ADSIEC, the Civil Service Commission, the Abuja Liaison Office, and the Presidential Lodge are in line with the Governor’s commitment to infrastructure renewal. We want to modernize these edifices to align with the current digital era,” Pirambe stated.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on ICT, Dr. Ahmed Hammajam, said the approval for the Digital Academy project includes provisions for renewable energy infrastructure and broadband connectivity.
He recalled that in November 2023, Governor Fintiri approved the establishment of the Adamawa Digital Academy in partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to drive digital literacy and innovation in the state.
“The Academy, located along Fufore Road in Yola South LGA, was built about 13 years ago but had remained idle. With this new approval, the facility will now be renovated and fully operational,” Hammajam added.
