Again, Flood Submerges Farmlands, Houses In Adamawa

Rainwater has flooded Rumde, Bachure, Limawa, Doubeli, Shinko, and other parts of Yola-South and Yola-North local government areas, submerging farmlands in Adamawa state.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that no live was lost and Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) equally confirmed farmlands and residential areas have been submerged, forcing many residents to evacuate into temporary shelters, with many displaced and livelihoods severely impacted.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has visited some of the flood-affected areas to assess the situation for necessary assistance.

Morris who deployed marine police for rescue, advised people in the affected areas to remain calm, avoid flooded zones, and ensure the safety of their families and property.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola operations office has coordinated search, rescue and evacuation operations in response to severe flash flooding that affected 13 communities across Yola-North and Yola-South local government areas of Adamawa state.

Head of Operations, Yola office, Ladan Ayuba told LEADERSHIP that, rapid-response teams, comprises of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency ADSEMA, federal and state fire services and local emergency response personnel and volunteer rescue units, carried out search and rescue missions in flood-affected communities to locate and rescue stranded residents.

Ladan said vulnerable households, including women, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities, were safely evacuated from high-risk areas to designated temporary shelters and safe locations.

He said NEMA teams conducted rapid on-the-spot assessments to determine the extent of flooding, damage to property and infrastructure, and urgent humanitarian needs.

According to him, the response was conducted in close collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, local government authorities, security agencies, and humanitarian partners to ensure timely assistance, devoid of duplication of efforts.
