In its determination to improve quality healthcare services across primary healthcare centres, the Bauchi State Government, through the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB), has organized the 2024 Annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony. The event aimed to honour best-performing traditional leaders and Community Resource Groups (CRGs) for their roles in creating demand for Primary Health Care (PHC) services in the state.
The ceremony, held at Pali Suites in Bauchi, brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, traditional rulers, women’s groups, and select individuals recognized for their commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Bauchi State.
Speaking at the event, the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, emphasized the government’s resolve to restructure the membership of the Ward Development Committees (WDCs) to enhance healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The Emir, who also serves as Chairman of the Bauchi State Emirate Council Committee on Health, noted that the law establishing the WDCs is being reviewed to ensure greater efficiency in fostering healthcare services throughout the state. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of traditional leaders, healthcare personnel, and WDC members to the advancement of the healthcare system.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of BSPHCB, Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad, said the awards ceremony was designed to appreciate the unwavering support of traditional leaders and CRGs. He disclosed that awardees were selected from across the six emirates of the state and included district heads, ward heads, chief agents, “Mama-to-Mama” groups, and WDC members.
Dr. Muhammad also used the platform to appeal to the federal government to increase and ensure the timely payment of allowances to members of the Ward Development Committees.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Muhammad Dambam, praised Governor Bala Muhammad for his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the healthcare sector. He attributed the successes of the awardees to their patriotism and dedication, urging them to sustain the momentum.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, the District Head of Bauchi, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba, pledged continued dedication to supporting the state’s healthcare goals.
