Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has commended the people especially youths in Adamawa State for conducting themselves peacefully during the ongoing hunger protests in the country.
The protest which commenced nationwide on Monday, August 1 as proposed by the organisers of the protest ‘Take Back Nigeria Movement’ would end on August 10.
Addressing the gathering of protesters at the Unity Bridge in Yola, Friday, Governor Fintiri commended the youths and other civil society organisations in the state for maintaining decorum during the protest.
The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Awwal Tukur observed that in democracy, there is room for people to ventilate their feelings to leaders.
“In democracry there is room for people to ventilate their grievances and tell the government at all levels their feelings, the aggregate of this is what you’re telling us today,” he said.
He acknowledged the hardships people in the country are passing through due to hunger and poverty and therefore assured them that his admonistration will continue to bring welfare policies for the masses.
The Governor called on the federal government to rejig its welfare policies to addressing the current hardships, while asking the youths to continue to remain calm and peaceful in the state.
He added that, “Certainly there is a lot problems all over the country especially affecting the younger people and any country that did not address its problems would see problems”.
Earlier in their separate remarks, leaders of the protesters, Comrade Abdullahi Isa and Daniel Godwin appealed to the federal government to bring back fuel subsidy and address the current hunger.
They appreciate Governor Umaru Fintiri for the laudable programmes in the state and assured that as leaders they will ensure non of their members destory government or private properties.
