Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri of Adamawa Stste has reiterated his administration’s commitment towards improving welfare of youths and children and addressing their plights.
The Governor stated this during this year children’s day celebration held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola Thursday, with a theme “effect of covid19 pandemic on Total well-being of the Nigerian child the way forward.”
Represented by the Commissioner of Higher Education, Alhaji Umaru Daware, the Governor said “children are our heritage hence the need to be given the necessary attention.”
He said the day was set aside by the federal republic of Nigeria to honor children and to sensitize the public on the need for collaborative efforts to build on Nation’s future through total care for Nigerian child.
in her welcome address, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Lami Ga’anda explained that children’s day was first proposed by the international union for child care in 1952 and 1954 and United Nations general assembly established a universal children’s day to promote children global cohesion on issue concerning their right and freedom.
She said the ministry in collaboration with her Excellence Hajiya Lami Fintiri, Child Protection Network and with support from EU Rolac programme has reviewed, validated and submitted the child protection bill to the national assembly.
The commissioner of women affairs and social Development then appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri to prioritize and support the immediate passage of the child protection bill for the betterment of the children.
In her vote of thanks, the permanent secretary ministry of Women affairs and social Development, Mrs Saso Benson expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri for his support to children in the state to join their colleagues in the federation and their development partners.
There was match pass by various schools, drama presentation and dances by the art council while prizes were given to first and second winners.
