The Mass Communication department at the University of Maiduguri organized a one-day tour for graduating students within the Maiduguri metropolis. Led by the department’s head, Dr. Abdulmutallib Ado Abubakar, the tour included staff advisor Dr. Rahila Jibrin, students training coordinator Dr. Ibrahim Uba Yusuf, Melea Jude Moses, and numerous graduating students.
During their visit to Channels Television Maiduguri, Dr. Abdulmutallib emphasized the purpose of the tour, providing graduating students with insights into real-world journalism practices, especially in the transition from analogue to digital media.
Charging students to strive for relevance in the digitalized world, Dr. Abdulmutallib highlighted the importance of multitasking and multimedia skills in modern journalism.
At Channels Television, the chief engineer, Mr. Samaila, welcomed the students, showcasing the station’s equipment and operations. He emphasized the station’s standards, attributing success to teamwork and dedication.
The Chief Reporter, Mr. Dogara, shared experiences and challenges in the media industry, advising students to be relentless, persistent, and dedicated to excel in their careers.
The tour extended to Daily Trust, where Zonal Chief Editor Mr. Kabiru Matazu explained the demanding nature of working for the organization. He acknowledged the University of Maiduguri’s Mass Communication department as integral to the Daily Trust family.
Graduate Success James commended the department for organizing the tour, describing it as a refreshing experience that broadened horizons and provided new perspectives on journalism.
Mustapha Bashir Dungus, another graduate, considered the tour an eye-opener for understanding digitized journalism practices.
