As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Day, the Taraba State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) congratulates and appreciates Nigerians for their patience and resilience.

The State Chairman, Sani Sulaiman, highlighted the nation’s challenges and triumphs over the past 64 years of independence in an interview.

Sulaiman expressed dissatisfaction with the level of development in the country, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure the speedy reconstruction of federal roads and collapsed bridges in the northeast, including the Jalingo-Numan, Jalingo-Wukari, and Jalingo-Bali roads in Taraba State.

He emphasized grassroots sports as crucial to elevate the nation’s standing among the comity of nations, describing sports as a means to address the challenges of unemployment across the country.

Sulaiman lamented that many Nigerians are not proud of the nation at 64 due to the lack of political will by some past and present political officeholders.

He commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his efforts in transforming Taraba State and providing adequate security, saying, “Today in Taraba State, people are sleeping with their two eyes closed and farmers are going to their farms peacefully, contrary to recent times. The Governor deserves commendation.”

The Chairman also praised the security agencies for their commitment to protecting lives and property and urged them to redouble their efforts across the nation.

“It is also worth appreciating our forefathers for their struggle and sacrifice that paved the way for the freedom we enjoy today. “Happy Independence Day to Nigerians once more.”
