In a swift and decisive response to a bandit attack, troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), successfully repelled a reprisal operation launched by armed assailants against Chachanji village and its surrounding areas in the early hours of November 13, 2024.
This was revealed in a press release by Captain Olubodude Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade.
The attack followed the earlier arrest of 12 suspected bandits and the seizure of 14 motorcycles and a locally fabricated pistol during a coordinated operation by troops on November 9, 2024.
On November 13, the remaining members of the criminal group attempted to retaliate against Chachanji village. Acting on received intelligence, the gallant troops of the 6 Brigade executed a counter-operation, engaging the bandits with superior firepower.
Overwhelmed by the Brigade’s swift and forceful response, the bandits were compelled to retreat into the surrounding bushes. During the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, and the troops successfully recovered several items, including one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, twelve rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one Motorola handheld radio.
In another development, following the arrest of a suspected bandit sponsor identified as Buba Alitu, also known as Buba Gayu, along with four others in Dakka village of Bai Local Government Area on October 31, 2024, troops conducted a search operation at the suspect’s hideout in Gabatari village of Bali Local Government Area. This search resulted in the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol.
Commenting on the success of these operations, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, emphasized that these achievements highlight the relentless efforts and dedication of the 6 Brigade in combating banditry and maintaining law and order in Taraba State and beyond.
General Uwa assured the public that the 6 Brigade remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all communities within its operational area.
He urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to facilitate swift military responses in the interest of maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.
