To enhance safety, discipline, and operational readiness among military drivers, the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army inaugurated a comprehensive Drivers Retraining Course on 28 October 2024.

This initiative was announced in a statement by Captain Olubodude Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, in Jalingo.

During the Opening Ceremony, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State and Special Guest of Honor, praised the dedicated efforts of the Army and other security agencies, noting that the people of Taraba now feel safe.

He highlighted that the levels of insecurity in the state have decreased from 95 percent to a single-digit percentage due to the steadfastness of these agencies.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Barrister Timothy Gebon Kataps, Governor Kefas mentioned that his administration has invested in enhancing the performance of security agencies by purchasing and distributing 110 vehicles.

Additionally, 89 service vehicles have been refurbished and returned to these agencies.

While encouraging participants to commit fully to the training, Governor Kefas assured the Brigade of his administration’s ongoing support.

In his opening remarks, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), emphasized the course’s importance in reducing road incidents, fostering a sense of responsibility, and improving the operational efficiency of the Brigade’s transport unit.

“This retraining course is part of our continued commitment to safety and excellence. By equipping our drivers with essential skills, we not only protect lives but also enhance the reliability and effectiveness of our operations,” General Uwa stated.

He expressed gratitude to the Taraba State Government for its consistent support and commitment to maintaining all issued or donated vehicles as a cost-saving measure that would also protect lives and property.

General Uwa extended his thanks to the Federal Road Safety Corps in Jalingo for partnering with the Brigade to conduct the two-week training and acknowledged various heads of other security agencies for their contributions to the Brigade’s successes.

Lieutenant Colonel Jamilu Lawal, the Chief Instructor, detailed the course highlights, stating that the training aims to update participants on basic driving ethics and practical driving in various weather conditions and terrains.

The course includes 60 participants drawn from the Brigade, other security agencies in the state, and the Taraba Government House.

The event concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the Special Guest of Honor and other attendees.
