The Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola is set to honor 11 outstanding individuals for their remarkable contributions to education and humanity at its upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration.

According to the college’s provost, Dr. Muhammad Usman Degereji, the awardees include late Ahmed Joda, late Ahmadu Ribadu, Professor Jubril Aminu, late Professor Gidado Tahir, Professor Samuel Alaideno, and Professor Peter Lassa, among others.

The tripartite events will comprise the 15th convocation ceremony, 50th-anniversary celebration, and the Nigeria Colleges of Education Games Association (NICEGA).

These events aim to enhance students’ welfare, academic excellence, and community service. The NICEGA games will bring together over 20 colleges of education from across the country, featuring various sporting activities from November 1st to 9th, 2024.

The college has renovated its sporting arena to ensure the event’s success. Additionally, thousands of students will participate in the 15th combined convocation ceremony, covering the period between 2011 and 2023.

Other activities include the launch of a book honoring Professor Gidado Tahir, the pioneer provost, and a display of the college’s archives.

The college has allocated N162 million for the events, primarily sourced from well-meaning donors and friends. Dr. Degereji allayed fears of any impending hitch, stating that the college has ensured the right infrastructure and enabling environment are in place for the overall success of the games.
