In a thrilling novelty match encounter at MKO Stadium Abeokuta in the early hours of Tuesday 27th May 2025, the Northern Journalists outclassed their Southern counterparts with a single, decisive goal.

The match which is a tradition at the end of every National event, was a fun-filled affair throughout, with players from both sides showcasing their skills.
The game was a closely contested “tic-tac” battle between the pen-pushers, but in the end, the Northern Journalists emerged victorious.

Interestingly, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olapade, played for the Southern team in the first half, while he also joined the winning Northern team for the second time.
At the end of the match, the NSC DG doled out financial incentives to both teams, as well as the best goalkeeper of the match.
Hon. Olapade congratulated everyone who participated in the friendly match exhibition, emphasizing that sports should take its space on the front page and even in the news, instead of last.

However, SWAN President, Chief Isiah Benjamin appreciated the DG for his unwavering support and reassured him of SWAN’s commitment to providing adequate publicity.
He commended members for participating in the exciting novelty match at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Meanwhile, shortly after the football match, SWAN members proceeded to the June 12 Media Centre in the stadium for the association’s National convention. +*Adexsports*
