Cleric Advocates Educational Reform In Nigeria, Berates Change In National Anthem

Reverend Father Maurice Kwairanga, the Parish Priest of Saint Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Ngurore is emphasizing the need for educational reform in Nigeria, rather than just changing the national anthem.

He believes that the energy spent on changing the anthem could have been better spent addressing the issues in the education system, such as decay in public schools and institutions.

The priest said this during a mass to commemorate Saint Charles Lwanga Day and also unveiled a learning institute to address the decaying standard of education across the country.

He said it is worrisome that structures in public schools are now death traps, and unqualified teachers are now mentors of the younger generation.

He said the church has taken the initiative to establish a new school, Saint Charles Lwanga Nursery, primary school, and college, to contribute to improving education in the country.

“We will build a world-class school in this part of Nigeria. As a church, we might not have the funds at the moment, but we have the will to do it. The Saint Charles Lwanga Nursery and Primary will have all the modern teaching equipment and qualified teachers, unlike what is obtainable in the public schools”

His message highlights the importance of prioritizing education to drive meaningful change and development in Nigeria.

As a church leader, he lent his voice in calling for patriotic Nigerians to invest in education by supporting initiatives that will strengthen the sector and improve the standard of education.

Highlights of the Saint Charles Lwanga Day in Ngurore were traditional dances from different communities.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State revealed that within the next two years, his administration will expand and rebuild one hundred secondary schools across the state.

The Governor revealed this when he hosted the political stakeholders of Numan and Lamurde local government areas on a courtesy call in the Government House, Yola, Tuesday.

He reveals that out of the 3 Science Secondary Schools that will be built in the state by the government, one will be established in Lamurde, in addition to executing many projects in the Bachama land and the state as a whole.

As a leader of the state, Governor Fintiri says he will continue to be just and fair to everyone, assuring his commitment to build a more prosperous Adamawa that the yet unborn generation will be proud of.

On the ongoing construction of Lamurde cottage hospital, Fintiri says the delay in completing the project was caused by a dubious contractor but says government has since taken measures to finish and furnish it.

He charged the people in Bachama land to promote peaceful coexistence in their respective communities and report any suspicious character within their vicinity to the security agencies nearest to them.

The spokesman of the delegation, Mr Piton Power noted with happiness that Governor Fintiri has redefined the fortune of Adamawa for the better, making the state a bastion of hope and beacon of development.

He thanked Governor Fintiri for providing Cottage Hospital and township roads, electrification projects in Timmu and Opalo, restoration of peace in Lamurde among other notable achievements in Numan.

Highlight of the event was presentation of award of excellence and good governance on Governor Umaru Fintiri by the stakeholders for his exceptional performance in office.
