2024 Olympic Day Run: Gov Kefas Reaffirms Commitment To Sports Development

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has expressed his administration’s commitment to promoting sports activities through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. 

This was disclosed during the 2024 Olympic Day Run celebration at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.

Kefas who was represented by the state Head of Civil Service, Paul Tino, emphasized the importance of such events in unifying the state and nurturing young sporting talents. 

The Governor commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, led by Joseph Joshua, for its dedication to enhancing sports activities in line with the administration’s five-point agenda.

As you are aware sporting activity brings us together irrespective of religion and other differences, to enable them to achieve a common goal.

Additionally, Governor Kefas noted that marking the Olympic Day Run was a testament that the state has witnessed tremendous improvement within one year.

The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Gumel noted that the Olympic Day commemorates the establishment of the Olympic Movement and anticipates the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, which will feature full gender parity, aligning with the Olympic Agenda. 

He expressed hope that the event in Paris will inspire the world through the achievements of the athletes, embodying the Olympic motto: Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together.

Gumel who was represented by Jesse Galadima also expressed optimism that the state Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua will be part of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 trip.

The State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Joshua, emphasized that the Olympic Run Day symbolizes more than just a race, representing hope, perseverance, and excellence, as well as the unifying power of sports to promote peace and understanding. 

He noted that the Olympic Run Day is more than just a race but a symbol of hope, perseverance, and excellence, adding that it reminds people of the incredible power of sports to transcend boundaries, bring them together, and foster peace and understanding.

Various officials and stakeholders, including the Chairman House Committee on Sports, Anas Shu’aibu, and the state Director of the Sports Council, George Shitta, lauded Governor Kefas’s commitment to youth development and emphasized the need for collective efforts in sports development in the state.

Some Commissioners, SAs to Governor Agbu Kefas, and the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Indo Markson were among those who participated in the exercise.
