Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State Tuesday announced that from January 2024, N10,000 will be added to the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Adamawa.

He announced this during 2023 swearing-in ceremony of batch C Stream Two 1340 Corps members posted to Adamawa held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Girei Local Government Area.

The Governor said the measure is part of the magnanimity of his administration to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the corps members.

To make the orientation camp more memorable, Governor Fintiri has donated 50 bags of rice, 10 bulls and 10 jericans of cooking oil to the newly deployed corps members.

“My dear compatriots, congratulations on your successful graduation from your respective institutions of learning which qualified you for mobilization into this noble scheme,” he said.

While assuring them security of their lives and property, Governor Fintiri urged the corps members to be security conscious and follow the personal security tips they will be exposed to.

“Above all, the Orientation Camp is also a golden opportunity for you to discover your talents and other potentials. So please grab this golden opportunity with both hands,” he said.

He encouraged the corps members to avail themselves of the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

The Commissioner of Youths and Sports who doubles as the State Chairman NYSC Governing Board, Barrister Wali Yakubu encouraged the corps members to stay off the long queue of job seekers by choosing from the various skill sets and participating fully in the training sessions.

In his welcome remarks, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Jingi Denis said in view of the peaceful atmosphere in the state, the scheme has reviewed posting policies in which more corps members are now being posted to the Local Government Areas outside Yola–Jimeta.

He requested for an upward review of the allowance given to the corps members serving in the post primary schools and expand the scheme to include all those serving in public schools.

……To Promote Peace Love, and Religious Tolerance

By Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna

In a remarkable demonstration of interfaith harmony, Pastor (Dr.) Yohanna Buru, a Christian leader from Kaduna, delivered a peace lecture to thousands of Muslims gathered at the Eid-il-Kabir praying ground in Kaduna on June 16, 2024.

The event, held at Murtala Mohammed Square, highlighted the importance of unity, love, and religious tolerance in Nigeria.

Pastor Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, led a delegation of Christians to join the Muslim community in their prayers.

This visit marked the third time he and his team have participated in the Eid-il-Kabir celebration at the central mosque, reflecting a deep commitment to fostering peace and stability in the country.

He emphasized that such interfaith gatherings provide valuable opportunities for dialogue and mutual understanding. “We felicitate with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Sheikh Ibrahim Yakubu El-Zakzaky, Sheikh Ahmed Mahmud Gumi, and all Islamic scholars around the world on this occasion,” Pastor Buru remarked.

He noted that during Christmas, thousands of Muslims from various sects, including Sunni, Shia, and Tijaniyya, join Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, further promoting peace and unity. The mosque committee had invited Pastor Buru once again to speak at the Eid-il-Kabir event, an invitation he gladly accepted to reinforce peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance.

Addressing the congregation after the prayers, Pastor Buru highlighted the shared values of Islam and Christianity. “We must remember that we are one family under God, worshipping the same God. Both the Qur’an and the Bible are holy books sent from one God. We are all descendants of Adam and Eve and must live in peace and harmony regardless of our differences,” he said.

He urged all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to embrace peace, unity, and love. “Nigeria can achieve its full potential if we put aside our differences and work together to build a stronger, more united nation through peacebuilding,” he added. “Once again, we wish our Muslim brothers and sisters a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration and pray that Almighty God continues to bless our nation with peace, unity, and prosperity.”

Similarly, Reverend Mikah James Chori from the Lutheran Church of Christ in Kano State, Nigeria, also attended the Eid-il-Kabir praying ground with other clergy members.

He emphasized the need to strengthen good relationships during such periods. “I came from Kano State to visit my Muslim friends and Imams at the Kaduna mosque to wish them a happy Sallah.

We came from various churches to strengthen our relationship with our brothers,” he said. Reverend Chori prayed for peace and stability in the country, reiterating that “we are one family under God.”

Mallam Sunusi Surajo, a member of the Eid-il-Kabir ground preparatory committee, praised Kaduna State for leading the way in promoting peace and religious tolerance across Nigeria. “We pray for more peace and unity across all 36 states of Nigeria,” he said. Sunusi expressed his happiness over the Christian delegation’s visit from Kaduna and Kano. He prayed for continued peace and harmony between Muslims and Christians.

The event also saw the participation of notable figures such as former Governor of Kaduna Alhaji (Dr.) Ramalan Yero, top Islamic scholars, and traditional titleholders.

This year’s Eid-il-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, was a significant occasion for promoting religious tolerance and harmony in a region often affected by sectarian tensions. The presence of Pastor Yohanna Buru, a respected Christian leader dedicated to fostering peace, further underscored the event’s importance in building a united and peaceful Nigeria.

In another development, a team of Christian clergy from Kasuwar Magani in Kajuru Local Government of Kaduna State, headed by Reverend Danjuma Mazadu Makama, visited their colleagues (Imams) at mosques to wish them a happy Sallah and to strengthen peace and unity among the residents in the area.

One of the Christian youth leaders in Kasuwan Magani, Mr. Peter Jonathan, during the visit to Chief Imam of Kasuwan Magani, Imam Abduljalal Imam, and Sheikh Akilu Mohammed, said they were there to boost good relationships in order to strengthen Christian and Muslim relations in the state. They both prayed for peace and stability in the country.
