Bauchi Assembly Committee Completes Statewide Visit With Gamawa, Zaki LGAs, Cautions Chairmen Against Encroaching Forest Reserves, Deforestation

Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has completed its statewide familiarization visit to the twenty local government areas of the State with a visit to Gamawa and Zaki Local Government Councils.

This was contain in a statement by Abdul Ahmad Burra Spokesperson to the Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly and made available to Sahel Reporters.

Speaking during the visits in Gamawa and Zaki today, the Chairman of the Committee Hon. Bala Abdullahi Dan said that the purpose of their statewide familiarization visit is to build working relationship and unity between the legislature and the local governments as well as ensuring quality service delivery to the people,

He cautioned the Chairmen and their Council on encroachment of forest and grazing reserves and logging in their local governments as the culture is becoming one of the major environmental and security problem in the State.

The Chairman said that encroachment of the forests and deforestation are not only causing desertification and other environmental dangers but fuelling farmers-herders conflicts and other security problems, urging the Chairmen to not only discourage the dangerous practice but fight it headon.

While telling the chairmen to carry every member of the Councils and workers along in their administration, he further asked all the local governments officials to fear Almighty Allah in the discharge of their duties so as to ensure transparency and development.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen Caretaker Committees of Gamawa and Zaki Local Government Areas Alhaji Nasiru Bakura and Alhaji Adamu Yakubu Sakwa expressed their appreciation to the Committee for the visit which they described as brotherly because all of them are serving the same mission.

They narrated the achievements they recorded since assumption of duty and pledged to give maximum cooperation to the State Assembly so as to ensure transparency, accountability and justice in local government administration in the State.

Arewa Group Urges FG To Construct Bauchi-Gombe Road, Boost Northeast Economy

A northern-based group Arewa Advocates for Good Governance AAGG has call on the federal government to consider construction and rehabilitation of Bauchi-Gombe road in order to save the lives of residents and boost economy of the northeast region.

The group during a press conference in Bauchi on Thursday also cast a vote of confidence to minister of works, Senator Engineer David Nweze Umahi, and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu applauding their significant achievement with a short period of time.

Speaking during the event, the national Chairman of Arewa Advocates for Good Governance AAGG Alh Jamilu Mato said the road if constructiled will link Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Adamawa, and some parts of Borno states which is been in bad shape for several years without any intervention.

According to him, the road become a living hell to residents and commuters traveling around the region considering the rate of damage and accidents the bad conditions of the road is causing.

Alhaji Jamilu Mato said the forum in it redefining effort to collective roles in a democracy deem it fit to recognize the effort of the Minister of Works Senator David Umahi and his commitment to the renewed hope agenda, saying he is transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.

According to Mato, “under Senator David Umahi’s stewardship, the Federal Ministry of Works has witnessed a paradigm shift towards excellence and inclusivity.

“His dedication to the “Renewed Hope” agenda, championed by our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is commendable and resonates deeply with the aspirations of our people.

“As such, we proudly commend him for pioneering the construction of concrete roads across Nigeria, ” he pointed out.

He maintained that “This innovative approach not only enhances durability but also signifies a departure from traditional methods, ensuring quality infrastructure for generations to come.”

The group then counts on Umahi’s commitment and visits to corners of the country assessing road conditions, saying it demonstrates his hands-on approach and genuine concern for the well-being of all Nigerians.

“It is with great assurance that we declare our support for the minister’s leadership style and on behalf of the people of the northeast appeal for the construction of the road that links Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Borno states which has been in a very sorry condition.

“We firmly believe in your vision and dedication to consider this appeal, which will yield tangible results, particularly for the people of the North-East, north and the country as a whole.

“This if done, will echo your commitment to working for all, regardless of religion, or tribe, underscoring an inclusive approach to governance, which aligns perfectly with our values as a nation.”

Taraba Govt Seeks Collaboration, As Hon. Barde Visits Minister Of Tourism

On the 11th of March, 2024, Hajiya Aishat A. Barde, the Honourable Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change in Taraba State visited Honourable Lola Ade John, the Minister of Tourism, at her office in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with her team and Mr. Ibrahim Pam, the CEO of SUNVILA NIGERIA.

The purpose of this courtesy visit was to establish a relationship between the Federal Ministry and the State Government and seek collaboration for projects that would encourage local tourism, decrease carbon footprint, and boost the economy of Taraba State. 

The proposed project is the “Ecotourism and Natural Resource Management” of the Gashaka Gumti National Park.

Honourable Barde emphasized the project’s multiple benefits, including the preservation of biodiversity, the promotion of community engagement, and the enhancement of social, economic, and environmental sustainability. 

She also mentioned Governor Agbu Kefas’s efforts to ensure security in the state and encourage responsible travel and safety of life within the state.

Honorable Lola Ade John expressed her delight in receiving the delegation and spoke about the need for federal and state collaborations in establishing strategic innovation in the country. 

She showed interest in developing projects that promote domestic tourism, such as ecovillages and incorporating bamboo farming and trading into the mix. 

The Minister, Lola Ade John also emphasized the importance of job creation, sustaining local livelihoods, and generating revenue in any tourist project.

Mr. Pam, the CEO of SUNVILA NIGERIA, also discussed the various benefits of the project to the state and the country at large, assuring the Honourable Minister that his company acknowledged her concerns. 

SUNVILA NIGERIA is a joint venture between a Nigerian and Korean corporation that aims to create smart complexes that will provide economic activities in the rural communities of the state after assessing the needs and environmental as well as the social impacts of the project.

Additionally, Honourable Aishat Barde reiterated the importance of this project to her office, which works tirelessly to provide solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts and protecting the environment at large.

Cost Of living – Dogara Urges Nigerians To Pray Rather Than Putting The Country On Flames

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara has called on Nigerians to pray for the leaders over the high cost of living rather than setting the country by uncontrollable utterances in the country.

Dogara made the call during the burial ceremony of his late mother, Mama Saratu Yakubu Tukur held in his country home, Gwarangah, Bogoro LGA of Bauchi State on Saturday.

He expressed dismay over the high cost of living that affects citizens and all the sectors in the country.

“We have no other country to run to if we set Nigeria on fire. It is true there is anger across the country because of hunger, but we must tread with caution.”

” The situation is affecting everybody irrespective of ethno-religious differences and so, the situation is not beyond redemption,” he said.

Dogara added the problem is not one man’s problem, it is beyond one man, we must all join hands to solve the problem, each one of us has a role to play.

“.If we set the country on fire, we will not be able to do anything, we will not even be here in this church for the burial program. I am appealing for caution in the way we react to the situation.”

“Let us take an exception to what is happening in other countries, we must do things that will make the situation better. Things are going to get better very soon,” Dogara said.

He then called on Nigerians to engage in prayers for divine intervention in the situation saying that there is nothing God cannot do to turn the situation around.
