NOUN VC Vows To Enhance Digital E-Learning For Pupils

As part of efforts to conform to national policy on basic education and enhance community enrolment ,the Vice- Chencellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Professor Olufemi Peters,said the National Open University will continue to enhance digital E-learning for Pupils of NOUN Staff School in Kaduna,and will support the introduction of additional international languages apart from the recently introduced Arabic langauge tough at their Nursery and Primary school.

The Vice-Chencellor is speaking at the 9th Speech and Prize giving day,in Kaduna state at the weekend, represented by the Deputy Vice -Chencellor administration Professor Isaac Butswat ,adding that teaching the pupils with digital E-learning and information technology will benefit them and will also make them to be selfreliance and meet up with the global practice.

Professor Isaac Butswat adding that “So far about 20 Computer have been put in place to the school to enable them familiarise computer and also to enhance digital E-learning Platforms. “I’m also happy with the introduction of international language I.e., Arabic , we may even consider introducing more.

Professor Isaac Butswat said he is impressed with the performance of our pupils and the credit goes to the staff and indeed the director of Centre for Human Resource Development (CHRD.)”We have alot of potential and activities like this are more of a talent hunt.

“We seek the cooperation of the community is highly needed and then the state government what ever they can bring to assist us that could be good I’m encouraging the staff and pupil’s to make sure they keep up to the tasks.

In her remarked, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna state Dr, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe,how is also Chairperson of the occasion, represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Kaduna state, Dr, Halliru Musa Abubakar, said the State Government will continue to partner with National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to enhance digital E-learning, which is part of the policy of Nigerian Government on education system,

“I,want to congratulate the school on the achievement in going from 8 pupils to 2012 to more than 400 in 2023 so is actually a very big achievement.

Dr, Halliru, Congratulated the graduating pupils and also encourage them to invive this digital technology because that is the only way they can actually cope with modern education.

According to him”we have this digital transformation not only in education you must have had when I spoke about Nigerian E-learning Platforms, I think some how will be information systems,all this are the digital platform and also to use this digital technology to monitor what the teachers are doing in our various classes.

He therefore advice them to read harder and to know that education is the for human capital development without education their will be no capital development.

In his address the Director Centre for Human Resource Development CHRD Associate Professor Aminu Umar thank the University management for the support to the school.

“This is an integrate aspect of a university community development effort to build Nigeria, .

The Associate Professor added that “the university has ‘3’ functioning buses for you, also, the vice chancellor have approved about 20 branded HP computer systems to the school out of them 12′ have been delivered and we have one of the best computers unit of primary schools in this community.

According to CHRD Director “And for the benefit of our host community i.e., barakallahu community the vice chancellor 4months ago donated N500,000 to barakallahu community primary school for infrastructural development to enhance earning.

He called for more additional classroom and bus service is needed to meet up basic 9 and increase enrollment,. The director call on politicians and philanthropist to support NOUN in its quest for value addition to Kaduna and Nigeria.

The event was graced in attendance by Security agencies, educational stakeholders, clergies, traditional rules, parents of the pupils. Highlights of the event include spelling quiz competition among pupils,Paper presentation by Professor. Nuhu Garba on Artificial intelligence, goodwill massage from diniteries.

NUC Approves 43 Academic Programmes For Federal University Kashere

National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved all 43 academic programs presented for certification during the October/November 2023 accreditation exercise of Federal University Kashere.

This development was made known in a press release signed by the University’s public relations officer, Mrs Janet Ibrahim Ezekiel and presented to this medium today.

NUC approval document with the reference number NUC/ES/412/VOL.14/327, which was addressed to Prof. Umaru A. Pate, Vice Chancellor of the university with the caption, “Result of the October/November 2023 Accreditation of Academic Programmes in Nigerian Universities.

This indicated that in line with the provision of section 10 (1) of the Education (National Minimum Standard and Establishment of Institutions) Act CAP E3. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, the commission organized the Accreditation of academic programs at the Federal University of Kashere in October/November and accredited all 43 academic status

Among the programs listed were postgraduate programs presented for accreditation, as well as some existing undergraduate programs presented for re-accreditation, and others were newly established programs presented for initial accreditation, all of which were approved, with no programs denied accreditation.

According to the results, out of the 43 programs offered, all four (4) postgraduate programs received accreditation status, 32 undergraduate programs received full accreditation, and 7 other undergraduate programs received interim accreditation status.

” It is important to note that any Postgraduate Programme with Accredited Status and Undergraduate Programme with Full Accreditation will remain valid for five (5) years after which they will be presented for re-accreditation, whereas those with Interim Accreditation Status will be valid for two (2) years before being re-accredited.

“You may be aware that the Federal University of Kashere offers 98 academic programs, 49 at the postgraduate and undergraduate levels. It is also worth noting that all 49 Postgraduate Programmes have been authorized and recognized; 42 Undergraduate Programmes have Full Accreditation Status, while the remaining seven (7) Undergraduate Programmes have Interim Accreditation Status.” The statement said

In response to the latest development, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umaru A. Pate, thanked Allah for the good conclusion and congratulated all staff participating in the accreditation process, calling it a communal achievement. While promising to work toward solidifying the achievement, the Vice Chancellor also requested additional cooperation from the entire University personnel in his efforts to convert the University into a true fortress of learning.

It should be noted that the Vice Chancellor, upon taking office on February 11, 2021, pledged to strengthen the University’s academic standards and quality assurance as one of his administration’s six priorities, as seen by the outcomes of this accrediting exercise.

JAMB 2024: How 115 Students Of Solid Foundation Tutors Scored Above 300 In Taraba

Over 115 students from various schools who enrolled with the Solid Foundation Tutors in Taraba State have achieved scores of 250 and above in the 2024 JAMB examination.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Mr. William Moses Iro, shared this information with journalists in Jalingo, the capital city.

He said nine (9) out of the over one hundred and fifteen (115) students scored 300 and above while others scored 250 and above in their 2024 JAMB.

The organization was established in October 2015, initially operating at Success Nursery and Primary School in Magami with 48 students. 

Over the years, the student population has rapidly grown, and currently, they have over 1000 students.

In 2018, they requested a more suitable location, and the Taraba State Ministry of Education relocated them to Low-cost Nursery and Primary School, where they currently conduct their lessons.

Mr. William Moses Iro mentioned that the center has over twenty teachers, including specialized teachers for subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. 

They offer a wide range of courses, including English, Mathematics, Financial Accounting, Literature, Government, and Religious Studies. 

For younger children, they focus on developing their reading and numeric skills and also provide additional support for struggling students. 

Mr. Iro emphasized the need for serious commitment from their students and encouraged them to overcome the mentality that certain subjects are difficult.

He said they aim to contribute positively to the education system and empower young people in the community in line with Governor Agbu Kefas’s free education agenda.

Mr. Moses expressed pride in the success stories achieved by the foundation. 

He noted that many students who previously struggled with professional courses and university placements are now excelling in their chosen fields thanks to the foundation. 

Additionally, Iro pointed out that before the establishment of the foundation, many of them were not studying in universities beyond Yola, Taraba, or Maiduguri, but now they are studying in prestigious institutions such as OAU, Unilag, Nsukka, and other universities, pursuing their dream courses.

Mr. Iro shared that he was previously employed at a multimedia company in Ile-Ife, Osun State but was inspired to start the tutorial center in Jalingo to positively impact students and help them achieve their goals.

The classes run from 4 pm to 6 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 12 pm or 1 pm on weekends and during vacations, they have full-day sessions to cover the syllabus and teach study skills.

According to him, their main challenge is the lack of suitable venues for classes, especially for general subjects like English and Mathematics. 

Mr. William Moses Iro urged Governor Kefas for assistance in providing a dedicated hall for teaching. 

Additionally, they face challenges with the stuffy environment during hot weather and expressed hope for support from the government to address these challenges to enable them to contribute to their vision of providing quality education.
