Adamawa Govt Prosecutes Looters Of Warehouses

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State Monday announced that arrangements have been concluded to prosecute looters of warehouses in the state capital, today (Monday).

This was coming after some hoodlums broke into warehouses in Jimeta – Yola, carting away food and non food items on Sunday morning.

Governor Fintiri who upon his arrival in the state from official assignment in Abuja, had proceeded to inspect the central stores in Jimeta, one of the major places attacked by the hoodlums.

Governor Fintiri said 90 of the looters have so far been arrested, and the government is profiling them, in addition to identifying their sponsors for prosecution.

He added that the government has taken a lot of proactive measures to curtail the incident which he noted has yielded positive results to stemming the tide of the situation.

“We’ve been meeting, taking a lot of proactive measures and I believe they have yielded results. During the endsars, we’re one of those that have the experience and we managed it well.

“Yesterday this situation was equally managed by the government officials and the security agencies spearheaded by the deputy governor,” said Fintiri.

He disclosed that the looted items were food and non-food items, drugs for the vulnerables that were purchased to be distributed to about 24,000 beneficiaries.

Governor Fintiri stressed that the items were not meant for the residents of the state capital alone but the entire Adamawa and called on people to be their brothers’ keepers.

“Going forward, we’ll educate the people that whatever parliatives that have been provided is not just meant for the people within the metropolitan of Jimeta and Yola but for all our people in 21 local government areas.

This is not politics any longer. Politics is over. We have to run a government and government for all that everybody will be happy and enjoy it,” Fintiri said.

On the reviewed curfew to now from 6pm to 6am, Fintiri said government is watching the situation, if the incident degenerates further, the state will be closed down for another 24-hour.

He called on the people of the state to remain calm, assuring that the government is making every effort to ameliorate their hardships, saying hard time doesn’t last but tough men last.

Fintiri was accompanied on the inspection by Deputy Governor, Prof Kaletapwa Farauta, Security Service Commanders and other top government officials.

The acting Chairman Comrade Ibrahim Mai Kuɗi praised the gesture during a press briefing, noting that civil servants are thrilled with the support, especially with the Sallah celebrations approaching.

Comrade Mai Kuɗi emphasized that this gesture is a worthy celebration, considering the current economic challenges facing citizens nationwide.

He encouraged civil servants to use the Sallah gift judiciously, acknowledging the state government’s efforts to alleviate workers’ hardships.

The labour leader also appealed to the state government to extend similar gestures to pensioners, who have served the state diligently and deserve equal consideration.

The Concerned Citizens of the North East (CCNE) has extended its warm congratulations to President Bola Tinubu on his first anniversary in office.
