NAWOJ Urges Bauchi Gov To Implement 35% Appointment To Women

The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Bauchi State has urged Governor Bala Mohammed to ensure the appointment of 35 percent of women in his administration.

The Chairperson of the Association in Bauchi state Hajiya Rashida Yusuf made the call in an interview with Journalists on Friday in Bauchi.

She called on the Governor to include more women in political positions in line with the 35% affirmation for women in politics.

“It is my believe that women are now as educated and capable as their male counterpart and should be given equal rights in all spheres of life and in the overall management and development of the state,”Yusuf said

She said that giving appointments to women in the administration would boost women’s political participation in the state.

Yusuf noted that Governor Mohammed in the last administration had appointed women in a good number of positions in the state.

She lauded the governor for considering not less than four women commissioners and other appointments in various, Departments, parastatals and agencies.

“We urge you to do more for women, our amiable governor and we have that confidence you will do more than what you did for women in your first regime.

“Allow political reforms and equitable women participation in the decision-making process and governance.

“Female politicians should not be deterred in their quest for adequate representation in statutory positions,” Yusuf urged.

According to her, women have continuously proven to be intellectually and resourceful in the developmental process.

“We have seen many outstanding females in leadership positions that have demonstrated their resilience, doggedness, honesty in your last administration.

“The importance of women’s inclusion in appointments cannot be overemphasised. It underscores the very essence of fairness and mirrors global organisational best practice.

“The appointment of women into your administration further drives inclusive development and accentuates the role of women in building the state,” The Chairperson said.

Yusuf emphasises that as long as women are economically and socially empowered in the world of work, their homes and communities, growth will be inclusive and will succeed in ending poverty.

She however asked women to be active in politics and support the government of Governor Mohammmed to have a way to continue demanding for their inclusion in government.

The Bauchi State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Union has commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s recent approval of wages for civil servants in the state.

The acting Chairman Comrade Ibrahim Mai Kuɗi praised the gesture during a press briefing, noting that civil servants are thrilled with the support, especially with the Sallah celebrations approaching.

Comrade Mai Kuɗi emphasized that this gesture is a worthy celebration, considering the current economic challenges facing citizens nationwide.

He encouraged civil servants to use the Sallah gift judiciously, acknowledging the state government’s efforts to alleviate workers’ hardships.

The labour leader also appealed to the state government to extend similar gestures to pensioners, who have served the state diligently and deserve equal consideration.

Additionally, the statement noted that Kefas’s vision for a prosperous and harmonious state has galvanized efforts toward sustainable development and improved the quality of life for all citizens.

The Concerned Citizens of the North East (CCNE) has extended its warm congratulations to President Bola Tinubu on his first anniversary in office. 

This milestone marks a significant point in Nigeria’s democratic journey, and the CCNE commends the President for his leadership thus far.
