The need for the incoming administration of the Taraba State Governor-elect, Col. Kefas Agbu (rtd) to invest more in the sports sector has been stressed.
A cross-section of sportsmen stated this while speaking to Radio Nigeria at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
The former President of South Africa, the late Nelson Mandela who was a sports lover famously said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, and unite people in a way that little else does.”
On the other hand, Sports join people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle, that is: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
In unified sports, teams are made up of people of similar ages and abilities. The sport also creates conversations by providing a common ground, and a unified sense of purpose among the youth.
However, a love of the game and passion brought forging bonds between players.
Given the above background, a cross-section of sportsmen in Taraba State who spoke to Radio Nigeria appealed to the Governor-elect, Lt. Col. Kefas Agbu (rtd) to accord the sports sector a priority with the view to encourage them to excel in the sporting world.
Badminton players Emmanuel Sambo, and Blessing, as well as footballers Muhammed Abdulrazaq and Nathaniel Lucky all expressed optimism that the new administration will revive the sports sector, believing that the Governor-elect being a youth, will not neglect them like the previous government.
They also appreciated the state Director of the Sports Council, George Shitta for his resilience and commitment to sports development in the state.
A veteran Badminton player, Alhaji Makyu Dan Girim has appealed to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Muhammed Alkali to collaborate with the Taraba Badminton and organize a North-east open badminton championship in the state.
“We have some funds but we need NEDC to also assist and partner with us to organize an open badminton championship for the Northeast, we have our people there and I believe they will help,”. Makyu added.
Also in an interview, the former Africa number one badminton player and a veteran in badminton who is from Taraba State, Jimkan Ephraim congratulated (trd) Lt. Col. Agbu over his victory at the poll as the Governor-elect and expressed optimism that he will change the narrative by reviving the sector.
It is also worth knowing that, teamwork is important because that is what allows a team to run like a well-oiled machine and achieve success.
Surely, without such unity, your team- any team is doomed for failure, therefore, the need for the incoming Executive arm, under the leadership of the Governor-elect, (rtd) Col. Kefas Agbu, and the legislative, as well as the judiciary to work in synergy and move Taraba State to greater heights cannot be overemphasized.
