It is against this backdrop, the unprecedented performance of the Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed in repositioning various sectors of the state economy and the governor’s ability to priotize Human Capital Development, the need for his re-election to consolidate on the achievements recorded cannot be over emphasized.

This is because, everyone responsible administration that is mindful in the collective interest of the citizens focuses on provision of infrastructure in both urban and rural areas in addition to formulation and implementation of policies and programmes that have direct bearings on the lives of people. In Bauchi State for example, Governor Bala Mohammed has championed these courses by not only fulfilling his campaign promises in that direction but initiating new ones on the basis of their relevance.

Moving to the Water Sector, we must note the adage that ‘’Water is life’’, because every human existence depends on the availability of water in the required volume. However, due to increasing human activities and climatic change, availability of water for human consumption had been a major recuring problem. In the major cities, unavailability is best described in relation to population growth and neglect of the sources and processes of water supply. At the advent of this administration, the situation of water supply in Bauchi metropolis and other urban centres was at best abysmal.

Another vital area that received the attention of the Governor is water supply, under the National Urban Water Sector Project, a World Bank supported initiative with the major components that include the rehabilitation of the Gubi Dam, rehabilitation and expansion of the Gubi Water Treatment Plant, and replacement of transmission mains from the Dam to Warinje and Buzaye reservoirs which has been commissioned by the President earlier in the year. In addition, efforts have reached advance stage in the rehabilitation and improvement of other major water supply schemes across the State.

In Health sector the Government has completed rehabilitation and re-equipping of at least one General Hospital in each of the twenty Local Government Areas of the State aimed at extending quality healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people. In collaboration with our development partners , the Administration has successfully renovated and equipped over three hundred Primary Healthcare facilities across the state. The goal according to Governor Bala Mohammed is to ensure that each of the 323 electoral wards in the state is equipped with at least one functional PHC centre so that every resident of Bauchi State can access healthcare delivery within a very short time and distance . The administration has also introduced highly competitive welfare packages for doctors, pharmacists, nurses and indeed all healthcare workers in the services of the state in order to address the gross inbalance in the doctor-patient ratio to ensure effective healthcare service delivery. This is in addition to recruitment of 100 Medical Doctors and over One thousand One Hundred and Sixty-Five medical-related personnel, mostly State indigenes.

Under the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme the state government has so far given out business support grants of N100,000 each to over 2,000 SME beneficiaries to recover and sustain their operations; livelihood grants of N100,000 each to over 2,000 economically active and unemployed youths and women; monthly grants of N10,000 each given bi-monthly to over 3,305 beneficiaries to enhance consumption support under the cash transfer platform for the last 3 months and going; and engaged 936 youths under the labour intensive public works to make them work on feeder roads, irrigation schemes, reforestation, security and sanitation services with payment of N13,000 monthly, which commenced three months ago. These interventions have gone a long way to support other efforts in the development of small and medium businesses as well as local businessmen and artisans. A total sum of N300 million was said to have been provided and disbursed under the Government’s support to traders, artisans and other local business operators with plans for the disbursement of the second tranche of N300 million almost concluded. This is in addition to other support provided including the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme that has provided succour to youth, women and the vulnerable through the provision of capital; work equipments, machinery and implements; and the likes to fully engage them and provide sustainable livelihoods in various trades and vocations. Over. N2.5 billion was invested in this regard across all the Local Government Areas.

In the areas of Security, Bala Mohammed was able to sustain active working relationship with various security agencies by providing all the necessary supports in the maintainace of peace and order. To further encourage the fight against crime and criminality across the state, the Governor donated operational Vehicles to Police, Army, Immigration, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Road Safety Corps, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the State Correctional Service, Volunteer Security Groups including Members of Peace and Security Committee otherwise known as “Yan Kwamitin” Vigilante Group and Hunters.

Other related gesture, are provision of brand new operational and fire fighting equipments to the State Fire Service to enhance their humanitarian services.

As a veteran journalist who acknowledged the role of media in the development of society, the Governor ordered for the digitization of the state own Media Stations and provide a level playing ground for media activities. He also extended the provision of official vehicle to leaders of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the State Chapter of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the State Correspondents’ Chapel and social media activists.

Relevant MDAs, Religious bodies, Permanent Secretaries, State, Zonal and Local Government PDP Leaders, PDP political Singers and youth leaders are also part of the beneficiaries.

These among others would no doubt convince electorates across Bauchi state to massively vote for Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for second term hoping that consolidation on his achievements will futher transformed the state to compete favourably with its counterparts.

It is however noted that the government has few challenges and shortcomings in the cause of governance which may be against the interest of some citizens but inview of the above tremendous achievements recorded by his administration the Bala Mohammed’s victory in the forthcoming 2023 Gubernatorial Election in Bauchi is largely assured.

One Year Of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Security And Defense Policy Costodians

By Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu

The Minister for Defense Alh. Badaru Abubakar fits this adage. During his tenure as the Executive Governor of Jigawa State and the Chief Security Officer, his domain witnessed and enjoyed maximum peace, security and adjoining growth.

This experience he brought to bear as the Minister for Defense. At the State level he coordinated all security organs, harmonized them, gave each organ the terms of reference of Operations while webbing them all together as a unit for the desired results. There were no overlapping references but overlapping corporation and coordination.

“You can only give what you have” is what Alh Badaru Abubakar is exuding within the Ministry of Defense.
Presentation Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the right choice of “the right peg in the right hole”. The Minister Mr. Badaru Abubakar in return reciprocated by coordinating the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs (Land, Air and Sea) and not leaving behind the Minister of State Defence Alh Bello Matawalle with the respective roles to play so as to achieve the results that our sovereign nation is witnessing today.

One cannot shy away from mentioning some oversight responsibilities that have seen either tremendous achievements, overhaul or complete make-over to be in tandem with world best practices.

To mention just a few that have gone through any of the above are:
1, Defense Industries Corporation (DICON)Kaduna.

2, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji.

3, The Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna.

4, National Defense College, Abuja.

5, Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Center Oshodi.

6, Defense Health Maintenance Abuja.

7, Defense Intelligence Agency Abuja.

8, Defense Space Administration, Abuja.

9, National Hydrographic Agency.
To mention just a few.

In return, the resultant consequences to the tenacious oversight functions, the following results were achieved:

(A), Special Operations Force was empowered, improved and expanded.

(B), Policy Framework on reducing dependency on foreign equipment and developing local content and adaptable technology was achieved.

(C,) Welfare of personnel at all strata both at the Frontline and home base was improved, hence boosting the morale of officers.

(D), Capacity building of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to the point where other Foreign Forces are eager and seeking collaboration with ours.

(E).General Stability in the Ecowas sub region to a point where insurgency is gainfully contained.

(F), Nigeria’s territorial waters and the protection of Nigeria’s oil installations On and Off shore has been a positive impact on security when it comes to piracy, improved drilling/ production and accountability of crude oil.

(G), Electronic Content management system is being developed and deployed for effective content and personnel management, which will help in the implementation of personnel performance records and promote accountability, promotion and career satisfaction in public service.

(H), Arsenal, equipment and training cuts across the Army, Navy and Air Force.

(I)Armed forces Veterans Welfare have been taken seriously by the Honorable Minister Badaru Abubakar first he started with a meeting with the leadership of various bodies afterwards two Ministerial Committee’s were set up to look into the Welfare and well-being of the Retired Military Veterans.

This is not a medium to list all, it would be counter productive to do so. However, we are witnessing the achievements so far.
To mention just a few.

The ” Defense” business can and should not be seen as an ‘ instant coffee” affair. Good healthy coffee comes from carefully selected coffee beans from an optimum climatic producing zone, roasted, ground and percolated….it’s a long process, but the best is got. Alh Badaru Abubakar personifies just that and with a support of a “Formidable” team.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not make a mistake to make him Team Leader.
This is “Renewed Hope” in it’s purest form, achievement and Glory.

The Essence Of Political Loyalty: A Pathway To Development

By Usman Abdullahi Koli, ANIPR

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” This proverb aptly captures the essence of political loyalty and its potential to foster development. Democracy has granted citizens the freedom to express themselves and share their opinions regarding the activities of the government and its leaders. Such freedoms are not only for citizens but for leaders as well, who are entitled to enjoy these rights. Therefore, there is nothing wrong if a leader supports another leader whom he regards as his political role model.

Recently, the Speaker of the Bauchi State Assembly expressed his loyalty to the State Governor, a gesture that is both normal and beneficial. The mutual understanding between the legislative and executive arms of government will result in significant developments for the masses. If these arms are antagonistic towards each other, progress would be impeded. People and leaders should be allowed to express their minds and appreciate whoever they like, as long as it doesn’t prevent them from fulfilling their official responsibilities.

Honorable Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, despite being a leader in the State House of Assembly, has consistently delivered on the mandates he swore to uphold. The Speaker is gradually fulfilling the promises made during his political campaigns, with the people in his constituency attesting to this through the immense benefits they receive. His loyalty to the state’s foremost citizen, who shares the same political party, translates to driving developmental projects to his people. Ningi and its environs enjoy power and water supply, access to qualified health practitioners, standard schools, and a host of other amenities.

Being from the constituency of the Speaker, I can personally testify to the positive impact of his leadership. The improvements in infrastructure and public services have significantly enhanced the quality of life for residents. The alignment between the Speaker and the Governor has resulted in a seamless execution of policies and projects that cater to the needs of the populace.

Moreover, the collaborative relationship between the legislative and executive branches fosters a stable and progressive political environment. This unity not only accelerates development but also strengthens the trust and confidence of the citizens in their leaders. As a citizen of this state, it is reassuring to see our representatives working in harmony to achieve common goals that benefit us all.

The Speaker’s commitment to his constituents extends beyond infrastructure. He has initiated various social programs aimed at empowering youth and women, providing scholarships, and supporting small businesses. These initiatives not only improve the socio-economic status of the people but also create opportunities for sustainable development. His actions demonstrate that political loyalty, when aligned with public service, can be a powerful tool for transformative change.

Furthermore, the Speaker’s efforts in promoting transparency and accountability have set a high standard for governance. His dedication to open communication with his constituents ensures that their voices are heard and their needs addressed. This approach not only builds a stronger community but also reinforces the democratic values upon which our society is built.
