This was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Press Freedom Officer, IPC, Melody Lawal on Saturday.

A report published by Premium Times stated that, “A man who supervised a poorly executed federal project in Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria, threatened to kill a PREMIUM TIMES journalist over a report on the project.”

The report further stated that, “When Saviour Imukudo contacted Andrew Okure, the man who supervised the rehabilitation of the stalls, before the newspaper ran a story on the project, he declined to comment.

“Mr. Okure later called the reporter, Mr. Imukudo dishing out threats. A male voice in the background could also be heard issuing out additional threats against the reporter.”
“Look at you, look at six feet. Don’t worry. Thank God, I know your name now. Somebody is telling you to go and die and you are following the person,” the voice in the background said.

Meanwhile, the IPC also expressed deep worries about the situation of Journalist, Saviour Imukudo and called on the Nigerian government, s well as the security agencies to ensure that he is not harmed in any way.

IPC further enjoined anyone who may be aggrieved over media reports to seek redress through legal channels instead of attempting to resort to extra-judicial self-help.

The Essence Of Political Loyalty: A Pathway To Development

Spread the love

By Usman Abdullahi Koli, ANIPR

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” This proverb aptly captures the essence of political loyalty and its potential to foster development. Democracy has granted citizens the freedom to express themselves and share their opinions regarding the activities of the government and its leaders. Such freedoms are not only for citizens but for leaders as well, who are entitled to enjoy these rights. Therefore, there is nothing wrong if a leader supports another leader whom he regards as his political role model.

Recently, the Speaker of the Bauchi State Assembly expressed his loyalty to the State Governor, a gesture that is both normal and beneficial. The mutual understanding between the legislative and executive arms of government will result in significant developments for the masses. If these arms are antagonistic towards each other, progress would be impeded. People and leaders should be allowed to express their minds and appreciate whoever they like, as long as it doesn’t prevent them from fulfilling their official responsibilities.

Honorable Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, despite being a leader in the State House of Assembly, has consistently delivered on the mandates he swore to uphold. The Speaker is gradually fulfilling the promises made during his political campaigns, with the people in his constituency attesting to this through the immense benefits they receive. His loyalty to the state’s foremost citizen, who shares the same political party, translates to driving developmental projects to his people. Ningi and its environs enjoy power and water supply, access to qualified health practitioners, standard schools, and a host of other amenities.

Being from the constituency of the Speaker, I can personally testify to the positive impact of his leadership. The improvements in infrastructure and public services have significantly enhanced the quality of life for residents. The alignment between the Speaker and the Governor has resulted in a seamless execution of policies and projects that cater to the needs of the populace.

Moreover, the collaborative relationship between the legislative and executive branches fosters a stable and progressive political environment. This unity not only accelerates development but also strengthens the trust and confidence of the citizens in their leaders. As a citizen of this state, it is reassuring to see our representatives working in harmony to achieve common goals that benefit us all.

The Speaker’s commitment to his constituents extends beyond infrastructure. He has initiated various social programs aimed at empowering youth and women, providing scholarships, and supporting small businesses. These initiatives not only improve the socio-economic status of the people but also create opportunities for sustainable development. His actions demonstrate that political loyalty, when aligned with public service, can be a powerful tool for transformative change.

Furthermore, the Speaker’s efforts in promoting transparency and accountability have set a high standard for governance. His dedication to open communication with his constituents ensures that their voices are heard and their needs addressed. This approach not only builds a stronger community but also reinforces the democratic values upon which our society is built.

Ziti Communications Withdraws Membership From Taraba Independent Publishers Forum

By Sani Yarima

Ziti Communications has officially withdrawn its membership from the Independent Publishers Forum in Taraba State.

The CEO/Publisher, Queen Kunde, made this announcement in a statement released to SAHEL REPORTERS in Jalingo.

The decision to withdraw was due to the unethical and unprofessional conduct of certain members, particularly the Forum’s Chairman, Mr. Joseph Igba.

Queen Kunde alleged that Mr. Igba admitted members who do not publish news and instead engaged in extorting money from government institutions and MDAs using the names of legitimate members like Ziti Communications.

“My attention was drawn today over one such occurrence when a member called to complain over what he termed as been shortchanged by the chairman who he alleged collected an undisclosed sum of money purportedly given by the Taraba State governor to the publisher’s forum, only then did I discover he and some of such members who do not publish any news material have severally engaged in such act at different times.”

The statement emphasized that while it’s acceptable for the publisher’s forum to receive support from the public, such funds should come from legitimate sources such as advert placements, sponsorships, and other professional activities.

Ziti Communications (Ziti Newspaper, Ziti online News, Ziti TV) also expressed its commitment to upholding the ethics of journalism in all its publications despite the withdrawal from the forum.

Regarding the accusations against him, Mr. Joseph Igba, the state chairman of the Taraba Independent Publishers Forum, stated that they were false.

He added that the CEO/Publisher of Ziti Communications has not been a member of the association for nearly two years due to her strained relationship with other members.

Igba emphasized that the name of Ziti Communications was not included in the list recently submitted to the Taraba state government for the coverage of the one year in office of Governor Agbu Kefas.

He also challenged Ziti Communications on productivity, especially in the area of hard copy prints.
