As part of an effort to boost the morale of its personnel, the Taraba State Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Command has organized a New year Dinner and Awards.

The event took place in Jalingo, the state capital where about 150 officers received Awards based on their dedication and punctuality to duty.

Also, some received commendation certificates based on their commitment to the success of the Command.

The State Commandant, Commander Bollo Arabi at the occasion urged all the awardees and called on the entire members of the VGN in the state not to relent in their efforts in securing their communities.

Represented by the Deputy State Commandant, DCV Dominic Kabanya, Arabi also called on them to ensure they continue working in synergy as usual with the formal security agencies in protecting the lives and properties of the people of the state.

The VGN state Commander, Bello Arabi appealed to the Taraba state government, and organizations like the North East Development Commission (NEDC) among others to assist them with operational tools including vehicles to enhance their patrols.

“Our officers and men are contributing immensely to curbing crimes in the state.

“We had recorded a lot of success in 2022 including the arrest of criminals terrorizing our communities, and we will continue with our efforts in that regard,” Arabi pledged.

The Assistant State Commandant operations, ACV. Shadrach G. Shadrach warned the VGN personnel not to collect bribes in the course of discharging their duties.

On his part, the state V.P.R.O, ACV Suleiman Aliyu noted that in the northeast it’s only Taraba that is left behind as all the neighboring states have received brand new patrol vehicles donated by their state governments, and appealed to Governor Darius Ishaku to look into it.

“All our neighboring states, VGN members are now enjoying allowances from the government of their states,” he revealed.

According to Aliyu, during the late Governor Pharm. Danbaba Suntai’s regime the VGN was given patrol vehicles and received allowances but since the end of his time, everything stopped.

In an interview, the Jalingo local government area Commander, Munir Bello said the award will go a long way in encouraging the personnel to add more effort in securing their communities.

“You can see all these patrol vehicles are grounded, so we are urging the government, corporate Organizations, and spirited individuals to assist us because we are doing our work voluntarily for society,” Munir added.

During an opening prayer, Dr. Israel Idris prayed to God to bring back the attention of the Taraba state government to VGN and look into its plight.

However, during the event, special prayers were made in honor of the eighty three (83) VGN personnel who lost their lives at the battle filled from 2021/2022.
