A gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Hon. Victor Bala Kona says he knows where the problems of the state lie and promised to fix them if given the mandate to become the next Governor of the state in 2023.
Bala who was the immediate past Chairman of the party, made this known while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the official declaration to join the race, in Jalingo, the capital city.
He said having spent most of his political career in party administration, under his watch as Chairman of the PDP for about ten years, the party has maintained and deepened its control in the state by winning two consecutive Gubernatorial elections in 2015 and 2019 that produced Governor Darius Ishaku.
The gubernatorial hopeful maintained that he desires to further consolidate the clutch of the party in the state’s politics and translate such control into meaningful and giant development strides in line with the party’s policy of political inclusion and infrastructural development.
“As a core party man, I will run an all-inclusive government if elected, believing as I do, that set goals are only achievable when people are involved in such a way they can see our vision and motivate them to build confidence in our collective effort to achieve those lofty goals;
“Taraba is blessed with abundant resources both human and material, we have no business with poverty, all that is required is the political will to harness them for the betterment of the state,” Kona promised.
Hon. Victor Bala Kona, however, pledged to focus on areas such as Education, agriculture, health, security, as well as provision of infrastructure among others.
Commenting on the consensus arrangement of the party, the gubernatorial aspirant said there is no qualified candidate than him.
“In PDP we believe in consensus arrangement but it’s discretional and optional, depending on the understanding of the aspiration of all the ambitious aspirants;
“So, we adopt consensus by picking the right candidate who knows the nook and crannies of the polity and we adopt;
“We cannot just come and do a consensus on an unpopular candidate who is not even known;
“We pick consensus to favor a popular candidate. Seen my profile I can be willing to accept consensus long as it favors me because there is no other candidate in Taraba PDP rather than I.
There is no anointed candidate and am not aware of any. When I talk of Better Taraba, the state is in good shape now under Governor Darius Ishaku. If you look at the development, Taraba was not like this before 2015.
“The present administration has made remarkable development and achievements, but the reason I said that a better Taraba is to build on where he stopped.” Hon. Kona clarifies.
