The religious leaders of the two major religions in the country (Christianity and Islam) have again urged their faithfuls to go out and receive the ongoing COVID 19 vaccination.
Leadership of the two faiths in Mayo-belwa local government Area of Adamawa state rekindle the clarion call in a separate interview with this reporter in Mayo-belwa weekend expressing strong commitment over continuous sensitisation on the importance of the vaccination.
Rev. Briska Zaphaniah, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN),Mayo-belwa local government Area stated that the governments at the state and local government levels have been involving critical stakeholders in the mobilisation of people to avail themselves with the global realities of life.
Rev. Zaphaniah announced that his Association has been engaging the clergy men (pastors) manning over 400 churches scattered across the nooks and crannies of the local council.
He stressed that their follower-ship have been responding positively noting that the vaccine don’t stop fertility or causes any illness as being peddled by rumour mongers in our communities.
He appealed to government to support the body with logistics means which can boost the reach of the awareness to all needed communities in the area.
In his interview, Chairman Muslim Council of the area,Ahmad Aminu Imam corroborated the position of the CAN Chairman stressing that seminars and trainings have been organised by our local health facilitators to that regard.
Imam Aminu said the Association has been assiduously to ensure people especially Muslim faithfuls are educated on the vaccination despite the global politics surrounding its efficiency.
Aminu explained that the only period they experienced break on the vaccination was when the vaccine s were not readily available(shortage in stock) but confirmed that people are responding to their appeals in the interest of all.
He stated that the Association has constituted a standing committee which monitors and evaluate the coverage through out the 1850 mosques in the council.
However on the side of the local council, Director Health Education and Women Affairs,Mr.Nirus Ezekiel said the local government authority is always according necessary support and cooperation to the faith based groups to ensure success.
