Dr. Saleh Abubakar, a former Acting Register of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is dead.
He died on Saturday, the 21st of May 2022.
Confirming the death, a family member of the deceased, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa who is also the Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Press Affairs, said Dr. Abubakar died at a Kaduna hospital after a protracted illness.
He said Abubakar who hailed from Jalingo, Taraba State but resident in Kaduna, was aged 74 years.
A 1973 graduate of history from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr. Saleh Abubakar was a member of the Nigerian National Constitutional Conference under the late General Sani Abacha regime from 1994-to 1995.
Before joining JAMB in 1996 as Director of Admissions, He was a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) for 19 years and was also the Chief Executive Officer of the College of Preliminary Studies (CPS) Yola in the defunct Gongola State and later he headed the College of Education, Jalingo, Taraba State.
The remains of the deceased who is survived by one wife, 12 children, and 11 grandchildren have since been buried in Kaduna by Islamic Injunctions.
The remains of Alhaji Muhammadu Chubadu Sali, a popular politician in the state has been laid to rest on Thursday amidst eulogies from sympathizers.
Alhaji Sali who died after a protracted illness at Modibbo Adama Teaching Hospital, Yola on Thursday was buried in Yola cemetery.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was among hundreds of mourners that turned out at the funeral prayer of the late Alhaji Chubadu Sali at Yola town.
The Governor has sympathized with the bereaved family and people of Yola South over the death of elder statesman.
He said the death of the politician will be sorely missed as he has contributed immensely to the development of democracy in the state.
He prayed to Allah to grant the soul of the decease eternal rest and the family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, noting that death is inevitable to every mortal.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate for Borno South, Kudla Satumari has raised an alarm of plan to rob him of alleged mandate he was given.
Satumari in a statement on Monday, said there was a grand plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the election results of some areas in Borno South senatorial district where the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was not administered.
He claimed he was ahead in places where BVAs where administered, but the APC has started bringing massively manipulate result which give them advantage from the places where BVAs was not used.
He said: “We have concrete evidence to proof that elections were conducted in some areas of Southern Borno without the use of BVAs.
“Gwoza, Shani, Bayo, Damboa and Kwaya Kusar were some areas mostly affected. I have personally called and notified the INEC state REC of the non usage of BVAs for accreditation in Ngoshe, Gwoza local government area when it was first observed before more evidences poured in.”
He added that: “Consequently, the good people of southern Borno and I will resist any attempt by any individual, group or agency of government to violate the provisions of the electoral act to disrupt the peaceful election process in which I am already leading in areas where elections were properly conducted in accordance with the provisions of the new electoral act using BVAs for accreditation.
“This situation has been escalated to the highest authority.”
He said: “We urge INEC not to declare the results of contentious areas of Southern Borno but consider outright cancellations of fraudulent results obtained from the violation of the electoral act.”
He queried that: “Why are results not uploaded, announced 48 hours after the elections, why did many polling units paper work did not have senatorial candidates result sheet until very late after threat of stopping the voting process by the agitated voters.”
He said: “We will do everything within our capacity to defend the mandate freely given us by our people. I ask all our supporters to remain calm and await the outcome of our engagements to address the issue.”
Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Taraba State chapter have paid a condolence visit to the state Chairman, Joachim Bandawa Dangana over the death of his wife late Mrs. Janet Joachim.
Recalled that the late Mrs. Janet Joachim Bandawa died on Monday 23rd, February 2023 in Wukari LGA of the state and was laid to rest on 27th February 2023 in Jalingo, the state capital at the compound of her husband.
Late Mrs. Joachim, age 37, left behind her husband, daughter Valerie Joachim, aged mother, brothers, and relations.
Led by the Deputy President SWAN, Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo, the team was at the chairman’s home at Abuja Phase three Jalingo.
Moyoyo in his remarks condoled the bereaved and prayed to God for comfort for the family.
According to him, death was an inevitable end of every living thing.
He stated that it was God’s will that the deceased died peacefully in her sleep, and that she could have died as a result of a protracted illness.
“Nobody, not only SWAN members but even our colleagues in the office were shocked when we received the sudden death of your wife, as believers, all the two scriptures taught us to take the such incident as the will of God, therefore, I implore you to take it as that,” Moyoyo added.
Alhaji Sadiq Moyoyo who is also the Director of News, TSBS urged the Chairman to remain strong and advised him to always be in the mix of people to avoid loneliness.
In his response, the host, Taraba SWAN Chairman, Mr. Joachim Dangana recalled that when he lost his first wife, it took him about five (5) years before thought of getting another marriage.
According to him, his late wife, Janet had been very supportive of him because she was instrumental in his occupying his new house.
Mr. Dangana who is also a staff of Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS), said he had taken it as the will of God and appreciated members of SWAN for identifying with him at this trying moment.
