While it was conceived to have been marred by mixed feelings in some, Maiha and Song in particular are among the local governments whose electorates expressed satisfaction with the activities of delegates during the PDP primaries for the local government chairmanship election as having duly reflected the interest of the teeming populace in the local governments.
This report will start with Maiha then song before other local governments. The reason isn’t far-fetched. The present Maiha local government caretaker committee chairman has proven himself long-overdue-worthy, as much as having the executive approval of the appointment of district head of Jalingo-Maiha as declared by courts judgements. Song local government was undoubtedly blessed with the achiever, the best local government chairman in Adamawa state who worked the talk than talking the meaningless work and the electorates cajoled him to come back and continue by improving from the concrete foundation he constructively constructed.
Electorates in Maiha local government have commended the PDP delegates for producing popular, generally accepted and acceptable candidate in Maiha local government.
Speaking with the Periscope reporter Wednesday, some of the elders and youths cut accross the five districts of the local government expressed satisfaction with the show of development-solidarity by those referred to as ‘delegates with critical conscience’ during the PDP primaries, preparatory to the local government chairmanship and other elections, reflected in the landslide victory earned by Hon Abubakar Mustafa, popularly known simply as Habu, making in character, the characteristics associated with his name as trustworthy.
The elated electorates and community elders as stakeholders in peace building for mutual coexistence are agreed that in Maiha it is not the popularity of a political party but the personality a party showcases determines the victory.
The electorates were impressed with the maturity exhibited by Hon Tijjani Maksha for withdrawing his interest in joining the LG chairmanship race.
Maksha was once-upon-a-time elected chairman of Maiha local government. He served in other different political capacities in almost all the elected governments in the state; prominent among which was the Commissioner of agriculture under Admiral Nyako led administration. He is currently serving as one of the advisers to the state governor.
The poll for the chairmanship primaries in the ruling party in Maiha, with Maksha’s withdrawal, was reduced to two candidates; Hon Abubakar Mustafa Habu and Hon Hassan Ahmadu.
“Hon Habu is the current caretaker chairman of the local government. He was in fact the most popular candidate, during what can be described as tough PDP LG primaries in Maiha two years ago, the result of which would have to be resolved at the government house in Yola, where Habu was made to surrender the baton to Hon Idi Aliyu Aminu, there after he was appointed as board chairman of a parastatal in the state before the latest appointment.
“Hon Habu remains a bonafide, no shaking PDP member. He has had no record of defection whether or not PDP retains the victory status.
“Having the slightest opportunity to join in Romans with those at the corridor of power, some politicians in the LGA are known for speaking ills against some constituents with a view to deny them benefitting from any favours. It’s one of the reasons for suspension of trust, for the mutual suspision between and among stakeholders; Maiha would have recorded progress than she is today if the philosophy of empowerment, support and backing rather than barking at each other is inclined to.
“Some are given the opportunity to serve but what legacy have we gained from their stewardship? What development have they impacted? How many empowerment projects have they initiated?
“Habu remains a unifying candidate who holds no Malice against any group and doesn’t backstab. He nurses the spirit of having Maiha local government and the people in general to go beyond the rural stagnation and stigmatisation. This is exemplified by the achievements recorded within few weeks into his interim appointment.
“We attribute the success to his patience and living with the electorates in Maiha, even though he has the capacity to relocate to Yola or Abuja and/or any other state capital.
“Hon Hassan Ahmadu held some political appointments at the local level, the latest being one of the advisers to the immediate former LG chairman. He was later relieved of the appointment, the reason wasn’t however clearly given. Ahmadu is said to have been sponsored by some group in the local government area to participate in the race. The question to have asked was whether or not the group has political structure with the winning spirit.
“It was indeed a landslide victory in favour of Hon Habu who got 205 votes, against the 18 votes in favour of Hon Ahmadu.
“Hassan Ahmadu did not get a single vote cast from Tambajam, Sorau A, Sorau B, Belel and Konkol wards. His 18 votes came from Maiha Gari, Mayo-Nguli, Manjekin, Pakka and Humbutudi wards.
“The delegates eventually acted upon the interest of the people of Maiha. With the credible results resulting from the free and fair PDP primaries, We assure you that, it’ll simply be a walkover come the main LG elecion,” the electorates in Maiha would analyse.
The nobility and the aristocracy in Maiha, represented by Prince Umar Farooq Abubakar – Sardaunan Maiha – have commended PDP as party, the executive members, the delegates from Maiha and the entire people of Maiha local government for the mandating one of the ruling family members to contest under the ruling party in the state. The ruling family uged the electorates to support Habu with their votes that will harmonise peace, unity and development.
Sardaunan Maiha writes, “I want to use this medium to on behalf of the Royal family of maiha express our profound gratitude to almighty Allah SWT and to the PDP Excos in maiha local government for using their mandate to bring in a credible candidate in person of Abubakar Mustafa to fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming local government election.
