Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State Monday approved the appointment of ten permanent secretaries from seven local government areas that have existing vacancies.

They are Solomon Kumangar, Michael Medugu, Ibrahim Buba, Mamuda Mshelia, Alhassan Tahir, Linah Ndisah, Aishatu Rilwan, Yahaya Sule, Cletus Hilkiah and Mbi Deborah.

Their appointment followed their success after the release of qualifying exam results conducted by Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) where they alongside others participated last year.

Earlier in his remarks before announcement of the exam results, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said the conduct of the exam was a policy thrust of his administration.

He said the exam which has jettisoned nepostism in the appointment of permanent secretaries had been successful and acceptable to civil servants in the state.

The Governor lamented how people were given the position days to their retirement before the advent of his administration, but government under his watch was able to change the narrative.

He congratulated all those that participated in the exams, and urged the lucky ones to justify reasons for their selection to ensure full implementation of the policy thrust of the present administration.

In his welcome address, the State Head of Service Doctor Edgar Amos Sunday saluted Governor Fintiri for the polical will and moral support for instituting and sustaining the exams.

He said the use of exam as a criteria for selecting permanent secretaries is objective and any civil servant that has attained and passed the exam can qualify for the position.

A faction of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Taraba state on Thursday commenced 7 days of prayer and fasting for God to ensure Governor Darius Ishaku lost his Senatorial bid.

The Chairman of the faction, Comrade Silas Jafta who disclosed this to newsmen in Jalingo said the decision was to appeal to God to stop the governor from continuing his poor leadership style in the Senate after his abortive eight years as governor.

Jafta explained that the plight to which the governor has subjected pensioners, was inhuman enough for them to seek God’s intervention to stop his political career in the state.

“We have resolved to embark on 7 days of prayers to appeal to God to ensure that governor Darius Ishaku loses the Senate seat. Our decision is due to the inhuman situation he has subjected us to.

“For ten years now, we have not been paid our entitlements as retirees of the Taraba state government, some of our members have died as a result of the situation, we have written severally to the government through the secretary to the state government (SSG), and the speaker of the state house of assembly but the governor seems not to mind our plight.

“We have carried out peaceful demonstrations in demands for our legitimate entitlements but still no positive result. We were to go out for another protest yesterday Wednesday 18/1/2023, but the security refused to approve our request to carry out the demonstration on the directives of the governor.

“Following the directive of the governor for the security to stop us from staging the protest yesterday, it has proven to us that he, governor Ishaku does not mean well for us.

“Allowing him to proceed to the Senate after his abortive eight years of reign would be a disaster for Taraba state development,” he alleged.

According to Jafta, if Ishaku wins the Senate seat, it would be a disaster against development but his loss would be a blessing for the development of Taraba state.

Recalled that the pensioners in Taraba State had on Monday 24th of October 2022, renewed mass protest after 30 days of consecutive protests in August 2022.

However, recalled that the then Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Prof. Joseph Albasu Kunini refused to attend to the protesting pensioners after waiting for over four hours at the assembly’s gate.

Residents of Taraba state have expressed feelings on the type of person they wish to have as the next governor of the state.

According to them, they prayed to God to provide them with a good leader like the former Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame or the late Danbaba Suntai but not another person like Ishaku’s type as the next governor.

The residents made their feelings known while fielding questions from journalists on who they wished to be their next governor irrespective of party affiliations.

But they simply answered that they do not want an Ishaku type, they want another Jolly Nyame or Danbaba Suntai to be the next governor of the state who would restore its lost glories of development.

Potion of College of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo

They decried the current era of infrastructural decay, a situation they described as the abortive 8 years of governor Darius Ishaku in the state, and pray that the next governor should be in touch with the spirit of development to return the state to her former position of greatness.

The residents, Mr. Eric Nashuka Wukari, Jubri Ando, and Festus Agbu, while particularly lamenting the state of the Jolly Nyame stadium Jalingo, Taraba state college of nursing and midwifery Jalingo, Taraba state Specialist Hospital Jalingo, and the Taraba Motel which hitherto were the revenue hubs of the state, also alleged that the governor had abandoned the institutions to decay without constructing new ones to fix in the position.

“We wish to have another Jolly Nyame or late Danbaba Suntai to be the next governor of Taraba state. We don’t want another Darius Ishaku who would come and kill all the working sectors without establishing any, to fix the position.

“These great institutions are decaying to the last degree but the governor doesn’t mind rescuing them from becoming scrap and the specialist hospital is gradually becoming a disease contracting center due to lack of running costs to the institution since seven years ago.

“No meaningful project has been executed in the state since 2015, and the state debt profile has risen from N117 billion to over 300 billion naira.

FC Taraba, Taraba Queens are dead clubs

“All the revenue-generating institutions you see in Taraba were established by either, Jolly Nyame or Late. Danbaba Suntai. We have never seen a poor government like the one of Governor Darius Ishaku, he has failed.

“He has had no meaningful project to be pointed at since 2015. He embarked on the construction of 192 km of rural roads since 2015 but up till now, non of the roads has been completed and the only greenhouse that he established has since collapsed,” they alleged.

They, however, expressed hope that “the best thing God would do to us as a people of Taraba state is to ensure that an Ishaku type is not elected again as governor of the state”.

Efforts to get a reaction to the allegations from the Special Adviser to Governor Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu failed as he did not respond to an SMS sent to his inbox.
