The remains of Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and seven others have been laid to rest on Friday amidst tears, eulogies from sympathizers.
The gallant soldiers were killed in a battle against insurgents during an attack on an army Base in Askira Uba Local Government area of Southern Borno.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state was among other mourners who thronged 23 Armourd Brigade, Gibson Jalo Cantonment Yola to bid the fallen heroes farewell.
Among others at the burial ceremony were Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustafa and Chief of Army staff Lieutenant General Faruq Yahaya.
Speaking at the event, Governor Umaru Fintiri said the death of the fallen heroes particularly Brigadier General Zirkusu is a big loss to the people of Adamawa urging them to takecourage and bear the loss
The Governor described the late Brigadier General Zirkusu as an outstanding commander who was always on hand to render assistace and exhibited devotion to duty for his fatherland.
He attributed that the command under the veteran soldier was responsible for the peace enjoyed in Michika and Madagali among other areas in northern part of Adamawa.,
He therefore renamed Lagos Street Off Army Baracks Road after Brigadier General Zirkusu as a mark of respect.
Governor Fintiri advocated that the late General be given posthumous promotion and should be immortalized as a mark of honor and appreciation for his service.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustafa extends the deepest condolences of President Muhammadu Buhari to the bereaved families.
He said the President expressed his sadness over the loss of the soldiers who exhibited gallantry in protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.
According to him, Buhari commiserated with Chief of Army Staff, government and people of Adamawa as well as families of the soldiers for the loss and prayed to God to grant them eternal rest.
In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruq Yahaya said death is ineveitable, urging the family to continue to pray for them for paying the supreme price.
Highlight of the funeral was among others presentation of national flags and condolence letters to the next of kins of the fallen heroes by Lieutenant General Faruq Yahaya.
